Learning Earth and Space concepts at the school level becomes far more meaningful when a strong conceptual foundation in Geo-informatics and Space programs is combined with hands-on exposure to real-world applications. This course introduces students to open-source virtual world data through platforms such as Google Earth, Earth Explorer, Bhuvan, and Google Maps. By exploring these tools, students not only enrich their understanding of the Earth, environment, and natural resources but also develop an appreciation of sustainable practices vital for the future of all living beings.
The 1 month course emphasizes the scientific principles and data that power everyday technologies, helping students connect their academic knowledge with real-life applications. While traditional schooling often limits practical exposure and industrial training may lack conceptual depth, this course designed and guided by Dr. Jayachandra bridges that gap. It integrates industry-oriented practical training with a robust conceptual framework, offering a unique blend of theory and practice. This approach equips learners with both knowledge and skills in Earth and space technologies, shaping them into informed and future-ready individuals.
Dr. Jayachandra has over 25 years of expertise in Geo-spatial Technologies, having executed hundreds of projects and trained thousands of students in this domain since 1997. He is the Founder of Global Information Technologies and currently serves as Regional Director at the Centre for Environment and Development (CED), Trivandrum, an environmental organization recognized as a Centre of Excellence by the Government of India. He is also the Founder & President of the Pure Earth Foundation, a charitable society based in Hyderabad.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Jayachandra has held diverse advisory and consultancy roles, including as Adviser at the Centre for Innovations in Public Systems (CIPS) and Consultant to GHMC, Police, and Rural Development departments.
He is a sought-after resource person and guest faculty, having delivered lectures at premier institutions such as the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Dr. MCR Institute of HRD, National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD), Judicial Academy Telangana, Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME), Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI), and Telangana Academy of Land Information and Management (TALIM). He has also been invited to speak at numerous colleges, universities, and professional institutions across the country.
COURSE OUTCOME & STRUCTURE
Objective of the Certificate Course on GIS, Remote Sensing & GPS
The course is designed to build a strong foundation in Earth and Space sciences by combining conceptual learning with live examples and present-day technologies. It aims to enrich students’ general knowledge alongside their regular academic syllabus, while also strengthening their competitive skills for higher studies and future careers.
Through this course, learners will:
Understand space technologies, explore the different types of human-made satellites, learn how they work, and discover their benefits in our daily lives
Be aware of the technology behind GPS navigation, tracking, and tagging solutions used in smartphones and platforms like Google.
Gain skills in map reading, map making, and working with scales.
Appreciate the significance of Earth as the only planet supporting life and recognize the role of individuals and society in ensuring a healthy environment for future generations.
This holistic approach ensures that students not only acquire knowledge but also develop a sense of responsibility and scientific curiosity—both of which are the need of the hour for the younger generation.
Course Structure
Eligibility: Students from 5th Standard to 12th Standard
Duration: 1 month (online)
Levels:
Level I: 5th to 7th Standard
Level II: 8th to 12th Standard
Timings:
Level I: 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM
Level II: 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Medium of Instruction: English (initially). Classes may also be offered in select local languages if required.
