This amazing book written by Ta-Nehisi Coats was inspired by Baldwin's "Letter to My Nephew." It was released in 2015, over 50 years since Baldwin's letter. I love using fiction and non-fiction as a way to discuss issues of equity, inclusion, racism, and bias. Putting these two texts together is a great way to see the issue of racism from a Black perspective. This allows students to see themselves in ways fiction and the media rarely portray them.
