McKinley Stinson, Jr. is the band director at J.C. Booth Middle School in Peachtree City, GA. His responsibilities include directing the 6th, 7th and 8th grade concert bands, BMS Warrior Pep Band, Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Winds, and Percussion Ensemble.
Prior to joining J.C. Booth Middle School, Mr. Stinson was the Director of Bands at Inman Middle School in Atlanta, GA. In addition to school related responsibilities, Mr. Stinson started the beginning honor band for elementary and beginning middle school students, as well as chaired the Atlanta Public Schools Honor Bands.
Following the completion of his graduate studies, Mr. Stinson was the assistant band director at Alpharetta High School and later the head director at Strong Rock Christian School, where he started the marching band and jazz program.
McKinley is the co-founder of Atlanta based trio, North Star Percussion. Mr. Stinson has also performed with Tim Zimmerman and the King’s Brass, Habib Kiote, The Marcus Young Jazz Quintet, and Aretha Franklin at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA.
Mr. Stinson holds a Masters degree in Percussion Performance from the Florida State University College of Music and a Bachelors degree in Percussion Performance from the University of South Carolina. He is also an alumnus of the Aspen Music Festival and School, Gateways Music Festival, The International Festival at Round Top and the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps. He also holds membership in Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, the National Association for Music Education and the Georgia Music Educators Association. Mr. Stinson resides in East Point, GA with his lovely wife Jessica, and son, James Oliver.
