JCArts and BEST are programs focused on performing arts and multimedia that JCPS students can participate in regardless of their home high school. Both programs require students to submit an application, and JCArts also requires submission of a portfolio or an audition, depending on the student’s focus. Students can participate in JCArts or BEST while studying in any JCPS high school - the JCArts or BEST classes take place before or after the regular school day.
The Jersey City Arts Program (JCArts) allows students audition for programs in Visual Arts, Theater, Vocal Music, and Instrumental Music. Visual Arts, Theater, and Vocal Music programs are located at Ferris or Snyder High Schools. Instrumental Music programs are at Snyder. (See more details about the program and audition process on this page from 2019, and more information about the Visual Arts program here.)
The Broadcasting Electronic Story Telling (BEST) Program is the student training program for JCETV, where students learn skills to use media to tell stories. The BEST program is located at Snyder High School.
All students applying to the JCArts and BEST programs submit an application at the same time as the HIP application process in February/March of their 8th grade year. Applications are shared with students by the school counselor. Students will be contacted to complete an interview, audition or portfolio review after their application is received.
