If you want true wireless earbuds with adaptive noise cancelling, spatial audio and a rock-solid 48-hour battery system, choose JBL Tune Flex 2; if you need open-ear earbuds with an on-case smart screen, AI translation and IPX7 waterproofing for training and travel, choose TOZO Open X2.
• JBL Tune Flex 2 — biggest strength: Adaptive Noise Cancelling with Smart Ambient, JBL Pure Bass from 12mm dynamic drivers, JBL Spatial Sound, and up to 48 hours of total playback with the case.
• JBL Tune Flex 2 — biggest trade-off: It's a traditional in-ear, stick-style design, so it physically blocks your ear canal and needs a good tip seal to sound its best. No smart display, no translation features.
• TOZO Open X2 — biggest strength: Open-ear, dual-axis ear hooks with IPX7 waterproofing, LDAC/Hi-Res Audio support, AI translation, motion control and a 1.75" smart LCD charging case.
• TOZO Open X2 — biggest trade-off: Open-ear means less isolation. You won't get active noise cancelling, so loud environments will bleed in. Its battery figure is 36 hours total, below JBL's 48.
• Who JBL Tune Flex 2 is for: commuters, flyers, office workers and anyone who wants to shut the world out and hear deep bass.
• Who TOZO Open X2 is for: runners, cyclists, gym-goers, drivers and frequent travelers who want situational awareness plus smart extras.
The Tune Flex 2 is a "do everything quietly well" pair of earbuds. The headline act is Adaptive Noise Cancelling, and JBL pairs it with Smart Ambient: Ambient Aware lets you dial in how much of the outside world you hear, and TalkThru lets you hold a conversation without pulling the buds out. If you've ever fumbled an earbud out of your ear at a coffee counter, you know why that matters.
Sound is classic JBL. The 12mm dynamic drivers, 13-ohm impedance and 98 dB sensitivity are built for punchy low end, and JBL Spatial Sound widens stereo content into something more enveloping for movies and games. Frequency range runs a standard 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. Calls get serious attention too: six microphones total, with beamforming outer mics picking up your voice and an inner mic isolating noise, plus environmental noise cancellation and echo suppression. That's a setup aimed at windy-street phone calls, not just quiet-room ones.
Battery is the quiet killer feature. JBL rates it at up to 8 hours per charge plus 24 more in the case with ANC on, or 12 plus 36 with ANC off — up to 48 hours total. A 2-hour charge time is reasonable for that capacity, and Bluetooth 5.3 keeps the connection current.
Skip it if you need to stay fully aware of traffic and surroundings, or you want open-ear comfort for long workouts. This is an in-ear design with a stick shape, so it seals your canal — that's the point, but it's also the limitation. It's also not the pick for someone chasing gadget extras like a screen on the case.
TOZO Open X2: Who It's For
The Open X2 goes the opposite direction: it never plugs your ears. The dual-axis rotating ear hook is built to stay locked in through movement without loosening, which is exactly what cyclists, runners and gym sessions demand. And with IPX7 waterproofing, rain, sweat and splashes aren't a reason to take them off.
Audio is more ambitious than "open-ear" usually implies. TOZO uses LDAC and Hi-Res Audio certification, a directional audio design to focus the sound toward your ear, and BASS+ and ORIGX Pro tuning. On top of that, the Free-Band Custom EQ lets you adjust any frequency point with 32 presets to start from. If you like tuning your own curve, that's a lot of rope.
The charging case is the conversation piece. It's aviation-grade aluminum alloy with a 1.75" smart LCD screen, and through the TOZO app you can upload personal wallpapers for the display. It's a genuinely unusual design choice for this category.
Then there's the AI layer. Face-to-face translation transcribes and translates speech between two people wearing the buds — both can talk while the AI listens and translates. AI meeting record captures, organizes and summarizes meetings. Motion control means a nod can answer a call, which is a real hands-free benefit while driving. Connectivity is Bluetooth with a 15-meter range.
Buy it if you want open-ear awareness, secure hooks for sport, waterproofing, a customizable EQ and smart features like translation and meeting notes.

In my opinion, most people shopping this comparison should buy the JBL Tune Flex 2. Adaptive noise cancelling, six-mic call handling, spatial audio and up to 48 hours of total playback cover the widest range of daily situations — commuting, flights, calls, video and music — and the app keeps it tunable over time. I'd pick the TOZO Open X2 only if open-ear awareness, IPX7 waterproofing, hi-res codec support and the AI/translation extras are exactly what you're after. For sport and travel-first buyers, it's the better fit; for everyone else, JBL wins on the fundamentals that matter most.
Yes. The JBL Tune Flex 2 has Adaptive Noise Cancelling with Smart Ambient, Ambient Aware and TalkThru. The TOZO Open X2 is an open-ear design with no active noise cancelling listed, so it deliberately lets outside sound in.
JBL. It's rated up to 48 hours total with the case — 8 hours per charge plus 24 with ANC on, or 12 plus 36 with ANC off. TOZO rates the Open X2 at 36 hours total.
Yes. It carries IPX7 waterproofing, so rain, sweat and splashes are covered. The JBL Tune Flex 2 is described as water and dust resistant, but its rating isn't specified in the same terms.
I'd recommend the TOZO Open X2 for that. The dual-axis ear hooks and open-ear fit keep you aware of traffic and stay secure through movement. Choose the JBL Tune Flex 2 if you'd rather block noise out on commutes and flights.
