Our trip to Rome and the Vatican City was the quickest trip of my life. It all started on Friday night, keep in mind we had school from 9-5 beforehand.
We were dropped off at the airport (by my amazing host mom) at around 8:30 pm. We were starving and decided to get TGI Friday's (You guessed it we missed our American food). We lost track of time sitting at the restaurant, that we forgot when our boarding was, we didn't even know what gate we were supposed to be at. So we just started running towards the gates. We checked the screens showing what gate we needed to be at and we found it. 3/4 of us were running to the gate and we made it in time, with only a minute to spare. Our other friend decided to walk, thinking it wouldn't of made a difference in running. So while we waited for her, the flight attendant gave us an earful for barely making it in time. We were just happy to make it!
So we land in Rome at around midnight and we safely make it to our "misadvertised" Airbnb. Once we get inside, we realized the room does not have 3 beds like the pictured showed. Instead It was one pull out couch and one bed. In the photos it made it look like the room had 2 beds and a pull out couch. Apparently, the "2nd bed" was just a picture of the couch pulled out. So I took the pullout couch and the girls, all 3, shared a bed.
We got up early the next day and first visited the Vatican Museum. The line was super long. We were approached by a sketchy man who told us to come back to his office (a convenient store) to buy some fast passes to skip the line, a guided tour was included with it. I was very skeptical, but the girls were all for it so we went along. We went to the spot where we were supposed to meet for the tour, but they didn't show. About 20 minutes after we were supposed to meet, they arrived! It turned out to be true. It ended up being a great experience. We went through the Vatican museum, The Sistine Chapel (Pictures were not allowed), and St. Peters Basilica. This took up most of our day. We ended up getting some food. I had some pizza! We ended up walking around, I bought a few souvenirs and gifts for family. Later that night we made our way to the Trevi Fountain, which is appareenlty featured in a lot of movies, including, "The Cheetah Girls", so I was drug along and had a great time there!
We did not do a whole lot the next day (our last day). We ended up sleeping in a little bit. Once we got up, we decided to pack all our things and take it with us. We headed over to the coliseum. We did not go inside but we took pictures form the outside because we had an earlier flight home as well. (We did not want a repeat of last flight!)
We've lived many great experiences in Barcelona and in the school (RMSI)! Most of these experiences can be seen within the picture section of my website. You'll find pictures I've taken at Parc Guell, Sagrada Familia, Bareclona Beach, Downtown Barcelona, some of the foods I've eaten, and much more! Also in that section you can find pictures of me teaching, and some of the cool activities we have worked on!
