READ

Read and reread the portion of Scripture you are studying. Read it out loud as well as silently. The goal is to slow down so that you can really take it all in. Remember, the Bible is actually literature. We will use the same skills our high school English teacher taught us. :-)

In order to read with impact

• Read Repeatedly - read the book/passage over and over (different translations)
• Read Prayerfully – ask God to illuminate the text
• Read Thoughtfully – engage the text
• Read Meditatively – marinate in the text
• Read Purposefully – look for themes
• Read Imaginatively – picture what is happening
• Read Systematically – how does it fit in the big picture

KEY – Who is writing? Who is the audience?
