Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Kellen Douglas and I will be graduating in 2024. I am a forward from St. Louis, Missouri. I attend Lindbergh High School. I have played many sports from a young age and soccer has always been on top. Through the sport of soccer I have learned that I am a great competitor and I don't give up. My main goal is to play at a collegiate level and to get a good education.

While I am on the field I try to score, but my other goal on the field is to assist my teammates. I respect my coaches and I know every practice and game is a learning opportunity. I am always looking for opportunities to improve and receive feedback from my coaches and teammates.

In addition to my club team, I have been playing on the MO Olympic Development Program (ODP) state team for 4 years, and I attended the 2021 ODP Regional ID Camp. I think ODP is a good way to play with different teammates, who have different perspectives and skills. I use these interactions to develop and improve my skills. Also, having a different coach with a different perspective allows me to learn new strategies and aspects of the game. ODP also provides me with the opportunity to develop my skills at additional positions. While I normally play center forward for my club team, I normally play in the midfield or as center back for the ODP team. I utilize these opportunities to develop my game at other positions and build my knowledge of the game of soccer. This helped me with playing for Lindbergh High School’s Varsity soccer team as a sophomore. For Lindbergh Varsity, I started this season at forward.

I play other sports such as basketball and baseball to support my fitness and for enjoyment. One of my favorite activities is fishing. Fishing has taught me to be patient and determined since not every day on the lake is successful. I find that fishing relates to soccer because like a bad day on the lake, if you have one bad game or practice that doesn't mean you quit, it means you get to try harder to get better.
