Jazzy n'Rio

Born in Brazil and based in New Westminster, Maíra de Cinque is a singer, university professor, and active researcher in philosophy. She is also the proud mother of two amazing humans.

Her musical connection to Brazil finds a natural expression in bossa nova, where poetry, rhythm, and simplicity meet. With Jazzy n’ Rio, Maíra pursues her passion for bossa nova, exploring its quiet poetry and gentle rhythms in conversation with jazz and other musical influences.

I started enjoying playing the saxophone in high school. In my twenties, I took lessons in improvisation while playing rock, rhythm and blues. In my thirties, I began exploring jazz more deeply, performing in both big bands and small combos. I also attended summer sessions with Hugh Fraser, Brad Turner, and Pat LaBarbera.

Professionally, I worked as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer until retiring in October 2018. Since then, I have become an active participant in the local music jam scene, continuing to play, improvise, and enjoy making music with other musicians.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Lorenzo Watters dedicated thirty years of his career to social work in the Downtown Eastside, supporting and serving members of his community. Lorenzo is also a lifelong musician who has performed with numerous local musical groups and contributed his talents to many community events over the years.

Whether through his professional work or his music, Lorenzo has remained deeply connected to his community and committed to improving the quality of life of those around him.
