As a Mexican-American, I have always struggled to identify with my Latin culture. Born in Mexico but raised in Dallas, Texas, I learned to speak English from a young age and often felt like I had lost touch with my roots.
However, as I got older, my desire to understand myself grew stronger. I found interest in listening to the same music my dad enjoyed, and imagining a life on a secluded ranch like my great-grandfather's.
To learn and reconnect with my culture, I turned to my passion for video and photography. I wanted to showcase the beauty of my heritage, and what I love most about it - the people. I have met some of the most genuine, caring people from all over Latin America, and I have seen their unwavering spirit and resilience, regardless of their societal status or income.
Together with fellow model Ashley Villa, we created a tribute to Adelita, the revolutionary women of the Mexican revolution. Our piece serves as a reminder to future generations of Latinos/Latinas that our culture makes us unique and connects us, by ancestral memory, to our values as people. We cannot forget our roots, they are the foundation of who we are.
I firmly believe that, regardless of our different backgrounds, we are all connected by our shared humanity. By appreciating each other's individuality and sharing our cultures, we can move forward as a better, more united society.
Thank you for your time, and I encourage you to check out Ashley and her amazing work at the Blooming Modeles Program on social media. Linked Below.
