Since 2008 I have designed and conducted several workshops related to teaching and the use of technology. Here is a list of the topics covered in these sessions:
Blended Learning
Educational Technology: Tips & Tricks
Instructional Design: Planning your courses and teaching
Focus on development of a design brief
Technology Enabled Instruction
ICT, Teaching with Technology & Social Media (Workshop given at the Kigali Health Institute in Rwanda, 2010)
My teaching primarily focuses on 'how to teach', applying learning theories and principles of instructional design - In particular the use of multimedia resources. I do employ a lot of concept maps and images in my teaching to help illustrate points and show a broader picture of topics. The image below was part of my class on designing an active learning activity using problem-based learning (PBL). I selected a controversial topic; the carbon tax, and outlined how this can be used to design an active learning exercise.
