Research Topic:
My research focuses on emergent quantum phenomena at atomically engineered oxide interfaces, particularly in 3d–4d/5d heterostructures where strong electron correlation and spin-orbit coupling coexist. By designing high-quality epitaxial thin films, I explore how symmetry breaking, charge redistribution, and orbital hybridization at the interface lead to new magnetic and electronic states that are absent in the bulk constituents. These oxide systems provide a versatile platform to study and control interface-driven magnetism and spin transport.
A key aspect of my research is the investigation of interfacial ferromagnetism emerging at nominally non-ferromagnetic or weakly magnetic oxide interfaces. Through interface engineering, I examine how exchange interactions, orbital reconstruction, and lattice symmetry mismatch can stabilize ferromagnetic ordering confined to a few unit cells at the interface. I study how parameters such as layer thickness, strain, and chemical composition influence the strength and spatial extent of this interfacial magnetism. This understanding is crucial for designing oxide heterostructures with tailored magnetic ground states and enhanced functionality.
An important direction of my research involves understanding how strong spin–orbit coupling at oxide interfaces leads to Rashba-type spin splitting and topological transport signatures. The combination of inversion symmetry breaking and relativistic effects at 4d/5d oxide interfaces can generate interfacial spin–orbit coupling that modifies band structure, induces momentum-dependent spin textures, and enhances spin–charge interconversion. I investigate how these effects influence magnetic anisotropy, anomalous Hall responses, and spin transport behaviour, and how interface engineering can be used to tailor Rashba interactions and stabilize exotic topological spin configurations. This unified framework connects interfacial symmetry breaking, relativistic band reconstruction, and emergent quantum transport phenomena.
I also study spin Hall magnetoresistance (SMR) in oxide heterostructures to probe spin current reflection and absorption at magnetic/non-magnetic interfaces. By controlling atomic-scale interface quality and magnetic structure, I examine how spin transparency and interfacial spin–orbit coupling govern SMR behaviour. This approach provides deeper insight into spin transport mechanisms and supports the development of oxide-based spintronic architectures.
