We Are All Made Of Stars: My Personal Mission
As of now, my personal mission is to be the best version of myself that I can be. I would like to integrate my core beliefs into my life and act upon them. The experiences and people I have had in my life make me desire to be a beacon for those who are struggling.
My core beliefs consist of four things: be yourself, have fun, take risks, and treat others with love and respect. BE YOURSELF. Don't bind yourself to societal norms; what people think of you is their business. By being your genuine self, you attract people who like you for who you really are. HAVE FUN. Do what makes you happy, what makes you feel true to yourself. Explore and try new things! Who knows, maybe you'll find something that could lead you to your rock: the one thing that keeps you going. One day I picked up a paintbrush and did some little thing, and it brought me to where I am today. TAKE RISKS. It is necessary to take risks in order to grow. The only way to succeed in the long run is to fail and learn along the way. TREAT PEOPLE WITH LOVE AND RESPECT. We are all human, no matter how terrible or “weird” others may seem, we are all made out of the same stuff as everything else. We are all made of stars, and deserve to be treated as such.
I hope that by acting on these beliefs with more diligence they will help me achieve my goals. As of now, I believe I have a long way to go. I'm not even at the tip of the iceberg when it comes to finding myself, but I know I'm doing pretty darn well. I've found that by surrounding myself with people of the same general beliefs, they push me to be the person I want to be. I’ve found that surrounding myself with people who have similar goals pushes me to be the person I want to be.
Looking back on my past goals, I can see that I am developing. I really want to improve my art skills to a level where I can express my feelings and desires with paint in a way that is both appealing to the eye and understood by the brain. The day I found out my art was going to be on display at the Minnesota State Capitol, I was ecstatic and felt so accomplished. Another one of my goals is to be successful in school and in life. When I earned the A honor roll in 12th grade, I really felt like I achieved it. It gave me the motivation to keep going and to strive for what I believe in.
A big inspiration for me is my art teacher. She was there for me and really pushed me when I felt like giving up. She helped me find my passion and led me to pursue my dream. She is the reason I want to be an art teacher. She was one of those teachers who was crazy in the best ways. It's because of her that I got where I am in the world of art. She's not only a mentor, but a friend. We still keep in touch. Every so often she’ll check in on me and ask how school is going and if I need anything. Now that I'm not with my parents, she's my rock.
Over the next few years, I would like to be an established art teacher who improves the lives of my students, drawing out their passions, helping them find who they are, and helping them pursue their own dreams. On the side, I'd like to be an artist with a lovely studio where I can create art that inspires others to be more comfortable with themselves and more accepting of others. I'd like to be living comfortably with my dream house, deep in the woods, with my cat Walter and a loving partner. Most of all, I'd like to be happy. I'd like to be satisfied with my life, my past, and who I've become.
To boil it down to the real basics, my mission is to be content. I want to be proud of myself and make my mark in the world. I wish to be the teacher that still talks to the student who, after all those years, is now a friend.
