I was born in Baja California, Mexico where I learned to grill carnes asadas and to speak Spanglish. I became interested in the topic of long-run development after reading Marx, Polanyi, and Douglass North.

I later moved to the Netherlands to study economic history and development, earning my Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Groningen (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen).  Living in the Netherlands and Poland deepened my concern about the environment and whether societies can learn from history to achieve sustainable, long-term growth.

My research tries to understand the direction of global society, focusing on the impacts of climate change in the Arctic and other emerging regions. I study the legacies of colonialism, demographic and environmental change, depopulation, and the evolving relationship between the Global North and Global South

Despite growing up in a Californian weather I have a fascination with cold temperatures. I love pristine natural landscapes and the way of life of indigenous people of the Arctic. My hobbies are listening to alternative music, cooking spicy foods, reading novels, watching live sports (for fantasy analytics) & trading penny stocks.
