My research seeks to understand the long-term path of emerging regions like the Arctic that are becoming the center and not the "periphery"

I study the evolution of their demographic, environmental and economic factors.

I was born in Baja California, Mexico where I learned to grill carnes asadas and to speak Spanglish. I became interested in the topic of long-run development after reading Marx,  Douglass North, and economic history books & papers. I later moved to the Netherlands to study economic history and development, earning my Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Groningen (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen). Living in the Netherlands and Poland deepened my concern about the environment and whether societies can learn from history to achieve sustainable, long-term growth.

Despite growing up in a Californian weather, I have a fascination with cold remote places. I love the pristine natural landscapes, the peace and sense of hope they give to us, and the way of living of locals and indigenous people

My hobbies are listening to alternative music, reading classics, watching cult movies, watching live sports (for fantasy analytics) & trading penny stocks in foreign markets
