Spatio-temporal heatwave propagation
Spatio-temporal heatwave propagation
Heat waves have serious consequences for human health, food production, and ecosystems. To assess their predictability and how they are expected to alter as a result of global warming, we must first enhance our understanding of the underlying processes that influence their occurrence, intensity, and propagation in space and time. The physical drivers of heatwave propagation are not well understood because of the complex interactions between land and atmospheric processes. This work will mainly focus on tracking these events in space and time and understating the physical mechanism responsible for their propagation. The improved understanding of the physical mechanisms will be used as the basis for developing improved forecasting models of heatwaves.
