Hello! I'm Dr. Jason Lynch, but you can call me Jason. I serve as a tenured Associate Professor of Higher Education & Student Affairs in the Department of Counseling, Family Therapy, & Higher Education at Appalachian State University. As a first-generation college student, I earned my bachelor's degree in Biology & Psychology from UNC Wilmington, a master's degree in Higher Education Administration from North Carolina State University, and my doctorate in Higher Education from Old Dominion University.
Professionally, I have worked in college housing and residence life, student conduct, multicultural affairs, fraternity and sorority life, and assessment and evaluation. My research agenda centers the nature and impact of trauma within education contexts with particular interest in secondary trauma, organizational trauma, and trauma-informed leadership. I also have interest in the career sustainability and mental health wellbeing of education professionals. To explore this research interest, I employ a variety of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methodologies to analyze issues from a variety of perspectives. Through my work, I am committed to equipping educators and educational leaders with the tools to provide trauma-informed transformational learning opportunities for students while also fostering the growth and well-being of staff, faculty, and leadership. Learn more about my professional background via my CV below.
Although I work for AppState, I actually live in Durham NC, with my husband (Rob). We are certified resource (foster) parents, but our household also contains three fur babies named Finnegan, Frosty & Freja. I also love farm animals, traveling, baking, sci-fi and horror movies/novels, coffee, mead/craft beer, and podcasts.
I look forward to learning more about you and your organizations!
