  1. DESCRIBE WHAT WERE THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS YOU LEARNED FROM LMP IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

​A. HOTEL OPERATIONS (FRONT OFFICE, HOUSEKEEPING, SALES & MARKETING, FOOD & BEVERAGE)

  • I LEARNED THAT PEOPLE WHO HOLD FRONT OFFICE NEEDS TO BE GOOD WITH WORKING WITH OTHERS AND HAVE INTERACTION SKILLS. THEY ALSO NEED TO HAVE GOOD COMMUNICATION AND LISTENING SKILLS. THE MAIN PRODUCT OF THE HOTEL IS THE ROOM. SO HOUSEKEEPING MAKES SURE THAT THE ROOMS ARE CLEAN, SANITIZED, AND SAFE FOR GUESTS TO USE. IN FOOD AND BEVERAGE TAKES A LOT OF TRAINING LIKE SERVERS WHO SERVES ALCOHOL. TRAINING THEM ALLOWS THEM TO RECOGNIZE UNDERAGE DRINKING, THE AMOUNT OF ALCOHOL BEING CONSUMED, AND HAVE A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF HOW IT CAN EFFECTS SOMEONE. SALES AND MARKETING IN A HOTEL PROVIDES GREAT SERVICE. AGAIN THEIR PRODUCT IS THE ROOM, HAVING GREAT SERVICE SELLS THE GUEST TO COME BACK FOR ANOTHER VISIT. THEY ALSO PROVIDE GREAT SERVICE TO MARKET AND SELL THEIR PRODUCTS.

B. CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • HAVING A RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE GUEST AND THE HOTEL INCREASES BETTER CHANCES OF THE GUEST COMING BACK FOR THEIR NEXT STAY. ALWAYS MAKE SURE THE GUEST IS HAPPY AND SATISFIED WITH THEIR STAY, IF NOT ASK HOW TO MAKE THEIR STAY BETTER. THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT DURING CERTAIN SITUATIONS. WE SHOULD ALWAYS KNOW HOW TO HANDLE ANGRY CUSTOMERS.

C. EMPLOYMENT SKILLS

  • LOOKING AHEAD IS VERY IMPORTANT. HAVING A PROPER RESUME AND HAVING GREAT INTERVIEW SKILLS IS VERY IMPORANT.

  • ONE MEMORY THAT STICKS OUT TO ME THE MOST WAS WHEN MR. CHONG USED ONE ONLINE MEETING FOR A MENTAL HEALTH CHECK-UP. NO OTHER TEACHERS USUALLY CHECKS UP ON US AND MENTAL HEALTH IS A BIG ISSUE FOR ONLINE STUDENTS. SO I THANK MR. CHONG FOR HELPING US OUT!

  1. IF I HAD TO REDO MY JUNIOR YEAR, WHAT WOULD I DO DIFFERENTLY?

  • IF I HAD TO REDO MY JUNIOR YEAR, IT WOULD BE CHANGING THE WAY I MANAGE MY TIME. SOMETIMES I WOULD FEEL SO UNMOTIVATED TO DO ANYTHING AND TURN IN MY ASSIGNMENTS THE DAY IT'S DUE. I HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT GOING FACE TO FACE BUT I WAS TOO SCARED, IF I COULD GO BACK, I WOULD GO FACE TO FACE TO FOCUS MORE ON SCHOOL.

  • I WOULD RATE MY EFFORT FOR THIS CLASS A SOLID 4. MY SUCCESSES WAS THAT I NEVER MISSED A GOOGLE MEET AND I ALWAYS DID THE WORK THAT WAS GIVEN TO ME. ONE OF THE CHALLENGES WAS GETTING UP EARLY AND HAVING THE ENERGY TO ACTUALLY LISTEN TO THE LECTURES AND GET READY FOR THE DAY.

Online Classroom Environment Reflections

ONLINE SCHOOL HAS BEEN TOUGH, I WON'T LIE. I HAVEN'T INTERACTED WITH OTHERS AND BECAUSE OF THAT I DON'T HAVE MUCH CONFIDENCE . DURING CLASS WE ALL RESPECT ONE ANOTHER WHEN ONE IS TALKING. I WILL SAY I AM NOT AS OPEN AS I WAS AND I BARELY PARTICIPATE.

STAYING IN ONLINE SCHOOL WAS FUN AT FIRST. I HAD MORE TIME DOING ALL MY ASSIGNMENTS, I WAS ABLE TO FOCUS ON MY MENTAL HEALTH, AND I FELT SAFE. EVERYTHING WAS RUNNING SMOOTHLY UNTILL SECOND QUATER HIT. THE TEACHERS STARTED ASSIGNING SO MUCH WORK THAT I BARELY GO OUTSIDE FOR SOME AIR OR EVEN TO EAT AT THE DINING TABLE. SOME OF THE STRUGGLES I HAVE NOW IS MANAGING TIME. THIRD QUARTER WAS A LOT AND I FELT RUSHED. I AM LEARNING, BUT I AM MORE FOCUSED ON TURNING IT IN ON TIME RATHER THAN COMPREHENDING THE WORK. MOTIVATIONAL LEVELS WERE HIGH IN FIRST SEMESTER, BUT AGAIN IN THIRD QUARTER, IT DROPPED.

I WILL SAY AT FIRST I STAYED ONLINE BECAUSE MY PARENTS TOLD ME I WOULD BE SAFER. BUT THE NUMBER ARE DROPPING AND TO BE HONEST I DONT KNOW WHATS THE EXCUSE THIS TIME.

IN LMP, I DO FEEL RESPECTED ALL THE TIME. EVERY ONE OF MY CLASSMATES GIVES EVERYONE AN OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK THEIR MIND. THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG ANSWER WHEN SPEAKING IN THE CLASS. MR. CHONG GIVES US CHANCES TO ASK QUESTIONS WHEN NEEDED. I FEEL LIKE I AM TOO SHY TO ASK QUESTIONS IN THE CLASS, I WAS LIKE THIS BEFORE SO IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT BEING ONLINE AND SUCH. HOWEVER, I DO INTERACT AS MUCH AS I CAN. I TRY MY BEST TO LEARN FROM OTHERS. OVERALL, I FEEL RESPECTED, I AM TOO SHY TO ASK QUESTIONS, AND MR. CHONG MAKES IT EASIER TO INTERACT IN CLASS.

A FEW THINGS THAT REALLY WENT WELL FOR ME IN 2020 WAS...

ACTUALLY GETTING THE CHANCE TO FOCUS ON MYSELF MORE THAN WORRYING ABOUT SCHOOL. BEING ABLE TO STAY AT HOME ALLOWED ME TO ACTUALLY FOCUS ON MY MENTAL HEALTH AND BE HAPPY. I GOT TO FIX FRIENDSHIPS AND RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN OTHERS. I GOT CLOSER TO PEOPLE I NEVER KNEW BEFORE AND GOT TO GROW A STRONGER BOND WITH MY FAMILY. I GREW A SMALL PLATFORM DURING COVID AND GOT TO HELP OTHERS THROUGH THEIR ISSUES.

A FEW THINGS THAT DID NOT GO WELL FOR ME IN 2020 WAS...

DEFINITELY LOSING FRIENDSHIPS AFTER TRYING TO FIX THEM. LOSING FAMILY MEMBERS DUE TO THE COVID-19 AND OTHER ILLNESSES. IT WAS A HARD TIME FOR ALL OF US TO EVEN ADJUST TO THE NEW AND NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE THEM HURT ME A LOT. MOST OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS ARE STILL SICK AS OF NOW AND I WILL CONTINUE TO BE STRONG.

MY PARENTS AND MY RELATIVES BECAUSE THEY MADE LIVING A LOT EASIER ESPECIALLY THIS YEAR. I WAS STRUGGLING TRYING TO GET MYSELF TOGETHER AND THEY HELPED ME THROUGH THIS PANDEMIC. MY FRIENDS AND BOYFRIEND : HENRICO, ABBY, JULIANA, ANGELITA, AND ROMMEL BECAUSE THEY HELPED ME GET THROUGH THE ISSUES I WAS STRUGGLING WITH MENTALLY.

MY COUSIN KALANI FLORES. WE'RE CLOSE BUT I DO WISH WE WERE MORE COMFORTABLE WITH EACH OTHER. AT TIMES WE DON'T TALK BECAUSE WE BOTH HAVE SOCIAL ANXIETY AND WHEN YOU ADD TWO AND TWO IT JUST BECOMES SILENT. MY FRIEND ABBY IBANEZ. WE HAVE GOTTEN SUPER CLOSE THIS YEAR BUT I HOPE WE PLAN ON SEEING EACH OTHER OFTEN AND OPENING UP. AN ADULT I CAN THINK OF IS MY GRANDMA. I KNOW SHE IS FAMILY BUT I CAN'T THINK OF ANYONE RIGHT NOW. SHE IS CURRENTLY SICK (NOT FROM THE COVID-19) AND I WANT TO SPEND AS MUCH AS TIME WITH HER AS POSSIBLE.

MY MAIN GOAL FOR MY LIFE IN 2021 IS TO FOCUS ON MYSELF. I HAVE A BAD HABIT ON PUTTING OTHERS HAPPINESS BEFORE MINE AND I JUST NEED TO BE BETTER MENTALLY. ALSO BEING FIT ISN'T BAD.

BASED ON WHAT I HAVE LEARNED IN THE PAST TWO YEARS ABOUT CAREER OPPORTUNITIES, THIS IS HOW I PLAN TO PURSUE MY CAREER GOALS...

I LEARNED THAT PLANNING AHEAD IS VERY IMPORTANT WHEN IT COMES TO EXPLORING SOME POSSIBLE CAREERS. INVOLVING MY PARENTS AND COUNSELORS WILL HELP A LOT BECAUSE THEY WILL HELP GUIDE ME. AS A JUNIOR, THE LEAST I CAN DO IS FOCUS ON SCHOOL.

TO HELP ME PREPARE FOR THE FUTURE I CAN BE TALKING TO MY PARENTS, COUNSELORS, AND TEACHERS ABOUT ALL THE POSSIBLE OPPORTUNITIES. I HAVE BEEN GIVEN A LIST OF PROGRAMS THAT CAN REALLY HELP ME, PROGRAMS LIKE DUAL ENROLLMENT. THIS YEAR MY CLASS FOCUSED ON FINANCES AND HOW TO DEAL WITH MONEY. I WILL BE USING THE TIPS ON PROPERLY SAVING AND SPENDING MONEY.

TALKING TO MY PARENTS ABOUT DIFFERENT CAREERS WERE A BIT TOUGH BECAUSE THEY WANT THE BEST PAYING JOB I COULD GET WHEN I'M OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL. BEING A JUNIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL, I'VE BEEN FOCUSING ON CLASSES AND I AM STILL EXPLORING. ONE POSSIBLE CAREER I AM VERY INTERESTED IN DOING IS PHOTOGRAPHY.

Seeking a Career

OUR CLASS HAD A MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 28, 2020. IN THAT MEETING WE DISCUSSED OUR FEARS WHEN IT COMES TO APPLYING FOR A JOB. MR. CHONG TOLD US WE NEED TO START THINKING ABOUT GETTING TO KNOW OURSELVES A LOT BETTER. THAT WE SHOULD RECOGNIZE OUR STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES. HE TOLD US WE SHOULDN'T BE SEARCHING FOR JOBS WE'RE NOT PASSIONATE ABOUT. IF WE CONTINUE TO WORK AT A JOB WE DO NOT ENJOY IT COULD RUIN OUR MENTAL HEALTH. A WAY TO HELP OVERCOME OUR FEARS, MR. CHONG SUGGESTED WE WRITE THEM ALL DOWN SO WE CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO OVERCOME IT. HE SAID MOST OF THE TIME OUR FEARS NEVER COME TRUE, IT'S ALL IN OUR HEAD.

I DEAL WITH ANXIETY SO THIS LESSON SHOWED ME MY FEARS ARE JUST FROM WORRYING TOO MUCH ABOUT EVERY LITTLE THING. THIS LESSON HELPED ME REALIZE THAT BEING NERVOUS FOR JOB SEARCHING IS NORMAL, WHAT SHOULDN'T BE NORMAL IS LETTING MY FEARS AND WORRIES GET IN THE WAY OF ME GETTING THE JOB I WANT. WRITING DOWN ALL MY FEARS AND STRENGTHS COULD HELP ME BOOST UP MY SELF-ESTEEM AND BECOME MORE CONFIDENT.
