A Decade of Learning, Growth, and Excellence

My academic journey spans more than ten years at Tayabas Western Academy, an institution that has played a significant role in shaping the person I am today. From my elementary years up to my current college education, the school has served not only as a place of learning but also as a training ground where I developed my character, leadership abilities, and passion for education.

Throughout my years as a student, I encountered various academic challenges that required dedication, perseverance, and resilience. There were moments of success that motivated me to strive harder and moments of difficulty that taught me patience and determination. These experiences helped me understand that learning is not always easy, but every challenge presents an opportunity for growth.

My transition from elementary to secondary education exposed me to more complex academic demands and responsibilities. As I progressed through junior and senior high school, I became increasingly involved in extracurricular activities, leadership roles, and academic competitions that broadened my understanding of education beyond the classroom.

When I entered college as a Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics student, I discovered a deeper appreciation for the teaching profession. My studies introduced me to educational theories, teaching methodologies, assessment strategies, curriculum development, and mathematics education research. These experiences strengthened my commitment to becoming an educator who can inspire students to appreciate mathematics and develop confidence in their abilities.

Reflection

Looking back on my ten-year educational journey, I realize that every stage of my academic life has contributed to my development. My experiences taught me discipline, responsibility, perseverance, and a passion for learning. More importantly, they helped me recognize the transformative power of education and inspired me to pursue a career dedicated to helping others learn and succeed.

Leadership from Elementary School to College

Leadership has always been an important part of my educational journey. From my elementary years up to my college education, I actively sought opportunities to serve, contribute, and make a positive impact within my school community.

As a young student, I learned the importance of responsibility and teamwork through classroom activities and school programs. These early experiences laid the foundation for my leadership development and encouraged me to become more involved in student organizations and community initiatives.

Throughout my secondary education, I participated in various leadership activities that allowed me to work closely with teachers, fellow students, and school administrators. These opportunities helped me develop communication skills, organizational abilities, and confidence in handling responsibilities.

As I progressed into higher levels of education, my leadership experiences became more significant. I became actively involved in student organizations, mathematics-related activities, and academic initiatives. Through these experiences, I learned how to organize events, coordinate with teams, represent student interests, and contribute to the achievement of organizational goals.

My leadership journey also inspired me to run for positions that allowed me to advocate for my fellow students and contribute to the improvement of the school community. Through these experiences, I developed a deeper understanding of servant leadership and the importance of integrity, accountability, and empathy.

Reflection

My leadership experiences taught me that leadership is not about authority or recognition; it is about service and responsibility. International Research Presenter and Plenary Speaker

Research has become one of the most meaningful aspects of my academic journey. As a Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics student, I have developed a strong interest in educational research, particularly in exploring innovative teaching approaches that can improve students' mathematical understanding and learning experiences.

One of the most significant milestones in my academic career was participating in the 3rd International Student Research Congress (ISRC) as a Plenary Speaker, an international academic conference that gathered student researchers, educators, and scholars from various institutions and countries to share research findings, innovative ideas, and educational practices.

The congress provided an international platform where students and researchers could showcase their scholarly work, engage in intellectual discussions, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge across different disciplines.

During the event, I had the honor of presenting our research entitled:

Hybrid Approach to Algebraic Fraction Simplification: Integrating Urdhva-Tiryagbhyam, Nikhilam, and Vinculum Sutras with Procedural Approaches

This study focuses on integrating selected Vedic Mathematics techniques with traditional procedural approaches in teaching algebraic fraction simplification among Grade 7 learners. The research aims to enhance learners' conceptual understanding, computational efficiency, mathematical confidence, and overall performance in algebra.

As a presenter, I was given the opportunity to communicate the objectives, methodology, findings, and educational implications of our study before an audience of researchers, educators, and fellow students. The experience challenged me to articulate complex ideas clearly, respond to academic inquiries professionally, and represent both my institution and research team on an international stage.

Beyond the presentation itself, the congress exposed me to diverse research topics, innovative educational practices, and global perspectives on teaching and learning. Developing My Identity as a Future Mathematics Educator

My journey toward becoming a teacher has been shaped by years of academic preparation, practical experiences, observations, instructional planning, tutoring, and continuous reflection. As a Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics, I have learned that teaching is not simply the act of transferring knowledge from teacher to student. Rather, it is the process of inspiring learners, building confidence, and creating meaningful opportunities for growth.

Throughout my college years, I have been exposed to various courses that strengthened my understanding of education, including Assessment of Learning, Assessment of Learning 2, Principles and Strategies in Teaching Mathematics, Foundations of Special and Inclusive Education, Teacher and Community, School Culture and Organization, Educational Research, and Field Study courses. These subjects allowed me to understand the complexity of teaching and the many factors that influence student learning.

One of the most valuable aspects of my preparation has been the development of instructional materials and lesson plans. I have prepared detailed lesson plans, daily lesson logs, assessments, worksheets, instructional presentations, and classroom activities designed to promote active learning. Through these experiences, I learned how to align learning objectives, instructional strategies, and assessment methods to create effective learning experiences.

As part of my mathematics specialization, I explored various approaches to teaching mathematical concepts, including problem-solving, mathematical investigation, modeling, and innovative teaching methods. These experiences helped me appreciate the importance of making mathematics meaningful, relevant, and accessible to learners.

I have also participated in classroom observations and field-study experiences that exposed me to real classroom environments. Observing experienced teachers allowed me to witness different teaching styles, classroom management techniques, assessment practices, and student engagement strategies. These observations deepened my understanding of the realities and challenges of the teaching profession.

Another significant experience was conducting free mathematics tutorial sessions for Grade 7 students in a public school. During these sessions, I had the opportunity to interact directly with learners, identify their difficulties, and provide individualized assistance. This experience taught me how to adapt explanations according to students' learning needs and how patience and encouragement can significantly influence student confidence and performance.

My involvement in mathematics-related activities and awareness programs through Mathribe also contributed to my growth as a future mathematics educator. Participating in activities that promote mathematics awareness helped me understand the importance of fostering positive attitudes toward mathematics and encouraging students to view the subject as a valuable tool rather than a source of fear.

Beyond formal teaching experiences, I have spent countless hours helping classmates, peers, and younger students understand mathematical concepts. These informal teaching moments allowed me to practice communication skills, simplify complex topics, and discover the satisfaction that comes from helping others learn.

My academic experiences also taught me the importance of assessment as a tool for learning rather than merely a tool for grading. Through coursework and practical activities, I learned how assessments can be used to monitor progress, identify learning gaps, and guide instructional decisions.

As I continue my preparation for the teaching profession, I remain committed to developing the qualities necessary to become an effective educator: patience, empathy, adaptability, creativity, professionalism, and a genuine passion for helping learners succeed.

My teaching experiences have transformed my understanding of education. Initially, I viewed teaching primarily as the delivery of lessons and information. However, through my coursework, observations, tutorials, and instructional planning experiences, I realized that teaching is fundamentally about relationships, understanding, and service.

Entrepreneurship has been an important part of my personal and academic journey. While my primary focus has always been education, I recognized the importance of developing practical skills that could help support my studies and prepare me for future professional opportunities.

My involvement in business activities was motivated by both necessity and aspiration. As a student, I understood that pursuing higher education often requires financial resources, discipline, and sacrifice. Entrepreneurship became a means of supporting my educational journey while simultaneously developing valuable life skills.

Through various entrepreneurial activities, I learned how to manage resources, interact with customers, market products and services, organize operations, and solve problems creatively. These experiences required me to balance academic responsibilities with business commitments, teaching me how to manage time effectively and prioritize important tasks.

Entrepreneurship exposed me to situations that demanded adaptability and resilience. There were moments of success that boosted my confidence, as well as challenges that required patience, persistence, and continuous improvement. These experiences taught me that failure is not the opposite of success but rather a valuable part of the learning process.

My interest in business is also connected to my long-term aspirations. Since childhood, I have dreamed of becoming a businessman, building a stable future for my family, and creating opportunities that can positively impact others. Entrepreneurship has allowed me to take small but meaningful steps toward those goals while continuing my educational journey.

The skills I developed through entrepreneurship have complemented my academic training. Communication, leadership, organization, customer service, problem-solving, and financial awareness are competencies that are valuable not only in business but also in education and other professional settings.
