Rice bags are excellent for relieving inflammation or sore muscles. Our family uses them everyday for headaches, sore muscles, cramps, backaches... you name it. I've also made these bags for children with sensory needs.
The bags keep well in the freezer, to be used as cold packs, or can be microwaved to sooth soreness or cramps.
Choose a size, the fabric, and filling!
SMALL - Approximately 11 x 6 inches. Perfect for the headache sufferer or lap bag for children. This bag covers the forehead and delivers cold relief a throbbing headache. Cotton fabric is recommended for cold compress. $12
MEDIUM - Approximately 18 x 7 inches with 2 or 3 baffles. This bag is great for wearing around the neck for sore shoulders (hairdressers, computer users, sensory input). It is also perfect for tummy cramps. $15
CUSTOM / LARGE - Contact me if you should need a custom size or larger than a medium.
I can accommodate most requests - MLB, NFL, pet lovers, animal prints, gay pride... if JoAnn's sells it, I can use it.
100% COTTON - cotton fabric is best for delivering cold. We found that this material works best in the freezer and maintains coldness for approximately 20 minutes.
FLANNEL - flannel is best for heat. A flannel rice bag is great for the shoulders shoulders, back, tummy and it doesn't get too hot in the microwave. Perfect for a winter's night.
COMBINATION - not sure if you are going to be using your rice bag for hot or cold? Get both! I can sew one side with cotton and one side with flannel in complementary designs.
Plain rice - Normally, I use white rice but I can accommodate other requests. I found rice to be the best filling because it lasts a few years (with daily use) and has little to no odor.
Dried Lavender - Dried lavender petals are mixed with the rice to provide a soothing scent.
Essential oils - Essential oils can be added to the rice for an aromatherapy effect. The potency of the scent over time is unknown.
Hidden notes - You may wish to include a prayer or well wishes in your bag. These can be printed on a tag or put into the filling.
From painting, drawing, crocheting, jewelry making, I've created many custom gifts over the years and I always get asked the same question - where can I buy this? Contact me to ask about other items.
