On Christmas morning, Gawain is awakened in a brothel by his lover, a common woman named Essel. He returns to the king's court, where he is scolded by his mother. Gawain attends a feast at the Round Table with his uncle, the king, who invites Gawain to sit at his right hand though he has yet to acquire a story to tell of himself, the mark of a true knight. Elsewhere, in a tower, Gawain's mother performs a magic rite that summons the mysterious Green Knight.[6] He barges into the king's court and states that any knight who lands a blow on him will win his green axe but must travel to the Green Chapel and receive an equal blow in return on the following Christmas. Gawain takes up the challenge. The knight yields, and Gawain, wielding the king's sword, decapitates him. The knight rises, retrieves his severed head, repeats the requisite date to Gawain, and rides away.
No digital visual effects were used in creating the Green Knight during the Round Table scene. Lowery preferred this in order to give the character presence on set. Actor Ralph Ineson wore prosthetics designed by Barry Gower. Scenes involving the horse alternated with a false mount that was wheeled around with a dolly, after the initial horse used for the scenes would not cooperate with Ineson. Lowery stated that the crew used practical effects to make the Green Knight appear larger, such as mounting Ineson on platforms.[6] Digital effects were later used during the Green Knight's hibernation scene, including subtly transforming the knight's face into that of the other cast members.[17] Speaking about the subtle humor and lightness incorporated into the otherwise dark script, Lowery stated that near the end of the film, he directed Ineson to portray the Green Knight as Santa Claus.[18]

When I was 14 in 2002 I got the movie A Knight's Tale on DVD as a gift which I remember thinking looked silly. One day after it sat around for a while collecting dust I put the DVD in and gave it a shot. You know how kids and teenagers can be: rewatching movies over and over obsessively and leaving them on in the background compulsively even while sleeping.
Although I stated before that I hate horror and anything to do with resurrection, the thrill aspect of the movie did its job extremely well. The music increased to build intensity and dropped completely in the most scary scenes. The makeup for the dead bodies were amazing and looked very real as did the hallucinations. Overall, this movie scared me and excited me at the same time. For once, I understood why people go to see horror movies, (not that I would willingly see one after seeing Flatliners.)
A Bride of Frankenstein remake is reportedly in development which will reunite two co-stars from The Dark Knight. A sequel to the equally famous Frankenstein film from 1931, Bride of Frankenstein was directed by James Whale and released in 1935. First introduced in Mary Shelley's novel, the classic horror film gave birth to the Monster's Bride on screen, played by Elsa Lanchester, and her iconic appearance including her wild hair, white gown, and bandaged body. Now, according to a report from World of Reel (via Production Weekly), a Bride of Frankenstein remake is in development for Netflix. Maggie Gyllenhaal will direct and Christian Bale is set to star, which would reunite the two after they starred together in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight in 2008. The project is also set to star Gyllenhaal's husband, Peter Saragaard, who is fresh off appearing in Matt Reeves' The Batman as District Attorney Gil Colson. Production isn't expected to begin until early 2024, seemingly due to the current actors and writers strikes.
The director and star are the perfect pairing for a Bride of Frankenstein remake. Bale and Gyllenhaal demonstrated great chemistry in The Dark Knight as Bruce Wayne and Rachel Dawes, the latter taking over the role from Katie Holmes in Batman Begins. However, the dynamic will be different with Gyllenhaal behind the camera. The Oscar-nominated actress made her strikingly assured directorial debut in 2021 with The Lost Daughter, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
It's unclear who Bale will play in the Bride of Frankenstein remake, though given his chameleon-like acting ability, he's capable of taking on any role. He could play Dr. Frankenstein or his iconic Monster, each presenting different challenges for the Oscar-winning actor. On the other hand, Saragaard seems more suited for a supporting role like Doctor Pretorius. Gyllenhaal is directing, but as a capable actress, she could also take on the role of the Monster's Bride or Elizabeth Frankenstein. This is actually the streamer's second star-studded Frankenstein remake in development after Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein movie for Netflix cast Andrew Garfield, Oscar Isaac, and Mia Goth earlier this year. Countless artists have put their stamp on the source material over the years, and Gyllenhaal seems like a perfect choice for a remake of Bride of Frankenstein, which is known for everything from its unique blend of horror, humor, and emotion, atmospheric cinematography, and impressive costuming and makeup. With The Lost Daughter, Gyllenhaal demonstrated she can handle a daringly ambitious story and draw superb performances from actors.
There's not a ton of plot details quite yet on Fixman's feature film remake, but the report does note it will maintain "the anti-establishment tone of the original."
