I am going through batteries at an alarming rate and I want to know what Roku plans to do about it because I wasting money on batteries now. They need to send something for new batteries or updated remotes because it is not ok going through 24 batteries between two remotes in the span of 3 months. I have two 4k streaming sticks. Their remotes are stealing the soul of all my batteries.

Are your remotes simple infrared remotes (control Roku functions only) or are they WiFi remotes (microphone for voice commands and tv power/volume/mute buttons) that are paired to the Rokus they control?

For WiFi remotes, there is some evidence that one cause of battery drain can be use of a router channel that is crowded by nearby routers and devices using the same channel. This is more likely to be a problem in the more heavily used 2.4 GHz wifi band that is also used by bluetooth and other functions than in the 5 GHz band. It's been suggested that the remote may have to work too hard constantly sorting through the information packets from other devices using the same channel such that it accelerates the battery drain.

If you have access to your router's setup, try configuring it to use a different WiFi channel to see if this helps the situation. If you are connecting in the crowded 2.4 GHz band, channels 1-11 are supported. Channels 1, 6, and 11 do not overlap each other and so give you the best chance at reducing congestion, so try each in succession, although depending on what channels your neighbors are using, other channels in the 1-11 range may work best. Also, reducing router bandwidth from 40 to 20 kHz may also reduce interference.

I am assuming the big brains at the corp office know about this issue - they know is a glitch in their device and its not worth their time and effort to fix it - the device I was having issue with is the head phone remote which was burning thru batteries every 2 weeks -- I assume even if you not using the device remote its aways in the active mode as long as the ruko device is plugged in and on--thats means the remote is aways active thus battiers are being drained from the energy - I was releasing the batteries from being active every time I quit using the ruko device - I have another remote- no headphone plug in and their was not a issue-

@thejimmer, if you leave headphones plugged into the remote even when you're not using it, it will drain the batteries. It shouldn't if you don't. I have multiple remotes with headphone jacks, but I never use private listening or voice control for that matter and I've never had the battery draining problem. Maybe I'm just lucky.

My Roku is brand new only a few weeks of use so far, but the right arrow button on the remote barely works. I have to press it super hard and multiple times before it works. Anyone know a fix for this? Batteries are 83%

I am having the same issue. I just purchased this and is less than a month old. All of the remote buttons do not work. I have to press all of them very hard to get it to respond at all. What can I do to get this issue fixed?

Where did you buy it from? It is under warranty. By the way you don't need to use the headphone jack. That is rather old school. You can use the Roku Remote Control app for your phone and use a pair of Bluetooth headphones or earbuds for private listening. This is what I do. Wired pluggin headphones using a 3.5mm jack is old school. I have 2 Voice Remote Pros but I do not use the headphone jack on the remote. It is also very easy to rip out the cord from the jack.

Hi, I just bought the roku voice pro and haven't been able to get the headphone jack to work at all. As far as liking the "old school ways" good for her, my daughter is the same. Alot of things and People should be more old school. Just sayin.

Hi, after finally contacting via chat, a Roku support agent informed me my current system did not support private listening. I just purchased a Roku Ultra LT thru Walmart Online, it had the cheapest price and free shipping, total was around $43. I just returned the roku with headphone jack alone that cost around $32.

Mine failed also. Worked a couple times and now I can't use headphones. It's less than a month old. I'm returning it. Got an RMA # from Roku this morning. This is happening to everyone I know that has this remote. Roku should just send everyone replacements, since it's obvious there is an issue with the product, not just 1 or 2 bad ones. Hope you get a replacement that works

I am not sure if it the back button or the back directional button on the Roku3 remote, but when I rewind, it enables Closed Captioning. I need to hit the * and choose disable CC.

This was documented in another post as well. Mine does the same thing, but turns off after about 10 seconds. As the other post suggested, this might be a roku feature as Netflix app does the same thing.

You pair a Voice Remote to a Roku device. It doesn't pair to the TV (unless it's a Roku TV). Once that's done, unless there is an issue with the remote controlling the Roku device, you don't need to pair again. Doing it again is simply a waste of time, and takes longer to fix the actual issue, which is configuring the remote for the TV. Since your time is valuable, know that if the remote is working insofar as the Roku device is concerned, you don't need to deal with pairing it.

One other thing: Roku remotes work with most TVs sold in the USA. Most is not all. When you go back through it according to those instructions (which you may have already done, but do it again) go slow. Look at everything on the screen to ensure you aren't missing where you search for your TV brand.

I'm not about to dispute what you're saying; I know better than to do that. This is definitely an area where I completely defer to you. But, let me share that my experience that, with dozens of different WiFi Direct Remotes over the years, I've never encountered this issue. Maybe I'm lucky. Maybe I've got a really good strong network with good coverage (I do). Maybe Roku just likes me. Maybe for whatever reasons there are, I've simply been able to avoid it. And, yes, I have set up multiple Roku remotes to control Samsung TVs. I've never needed to manually configure one to a Samsung, and never needed to at all in recent years, but have done it as part of researching troubleshooting on this board.

No problem, I haven't come across this personally at all either. But you can't deny it happening to others on this site. There are so many posts dealing with this. Some had success with factory resetting the roku, but most who have had success was just switching internet just when setting up the tv brand.

As we all know, rechargeable batteries have a finite life and LiPo batteries are no exception. Is the Roku Voice Remote Pro battery replaceable once it is no longer rechargeable or is this remote a throw away and buy another? Seems it would be wasteful if it was not able to be replaced.

Why not try everyone's favorite solution - disconnecting for a minute or so, then reconnecting. As you can see from the pic sent in @renojim's post, the battery is plugged into the circuit board by a 3-wire 2mm white plug. I carefully pulled out that plug by rocking it gently from side to side and gave it a minute before plugging it back in. I then charged up the remote and after a few hours the green light became steady - no more pulsing. It worked! My remo'te now shows 100% charge and no more "Remote 0%" messages on the screen.

More often than not, I have my OEM TV remote that will work if I want to change the volume or turn the TV on/off. It seems that if you wait a bit, cannot say how long, the remote will start working again.

There is definitely a bug in these remotes as all 3 of mine do it. It took close to 30 pages of comments for the screen freeze before Roku fixed the problem. Not sure how long it will take to fix this one, if it is fixable.

I think the secret is to be patient, give them the info they request and wait for a fix. I'm hoping that happens with the remotes. I saw other cases open here on remotes, but nobody described the exact problem I was having. So, I started this on in hopes of getting it fixed. Not sure it is the same person, but RokuDanny was involved with the screen freeze problem, and they eventually solved it with a new software download. I have faith in Danny to deliver the bacon on this problem as well.

But, momma didn't raise an idiot in me. I paid good money for two units inside of 7 months. The second one I bought a standard remote with actual batteries. Only to find nothing helps. So, my money is hard enough to come by and I am tired of sending it to Roku.

and by the way resetting your roku has no effect on this issue (for me or for others who have the same problem) i tried factory resets, battery replacements, and every other "canned response" that has been suggested online and by roku

-Remove the power cable from your Roku device, wait 5 seconds, and then re-connect the power cable.

-Wait until your Roku device displays the home screen.

-Restart your remote. If your remote uses standard batteries, restart your remote by removing and reinserting the batteries. If your remote is rechargeable, press and hold the pairing button for 20 seconds. The status light should slowly flash green, stop, then flash rapidly. When this happens, release the pairing button and your remote has restarted.

-Press and hold the pairing button for 5 seconds until you see the status light begin to flash. If the light does not flash, charge your remote or replace the batteries.

-Wait for 30 seconds while the remote establishes a connection with your Roku device.

-Once the Roku device is connected to the remote, the pairing dialog should appear on your TV screen.

My wife suddenly started getting this response to voice commands after 4 months of perfect use. Tried recharging batteries, re-pairing the remote, etc. No joy at all. Then when exploring the voice activation option of the remote I noticed that the switch on the top left side of the remote that activates this feature was in an in-between position, ie, not set in the on position or the off position. Moved the switch fully down to the voice activation "off" position and the remote started hearing perfectly again. The way this switch is situated on the side, it is easy when holding the remote to accidentally nudge up to or down to where it is isn't set at all. This may account why the problem may suddenly occur without any identifiable change. Would like to hear if others find this a solution. 589ccfa754
