Welcome to JapMala! Please read these Terms of Use ("Terms", "Terms of Use", "EULA") carefully before using the JapMala mobile application (the "Service", "App") operated by Garoono Technologies.
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you disagree with any part of the Terms, you may not access the Service.
JapMala is a free, offline-first naam jaap / mantra counter for the Indian devotional niche. Key capabilities include:
Counting chants on a digital 108-bead mala with haptic and optional sound feedback
Multiple deity naams (mantras), including the ability to create and edit custom naams
Daily, monthly, and yearly statistics with streak tracking
A meditation timer with a focus screen and background music
A library of offline Hindu kathayein (stories) with favourites
Full Hindi and English interface localization, with Hindi as the default
The App is provided free of charge, works fully offline, and does not require an account or login.

JapMala is offered free of charge. The App contains no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, and no paid tiers. You are not required to provide any payment information to use any feature of the App.
If paid features are introduced in a future version, these Terms will be updated accordingly and any charges will be clearly disclosed before purchase.
JapMala does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide credentials. All of your data is stored locally on your device, and the App functions fully offline and anonymously.
On-Device Storage
All of your chant counts, jaap sessions, custom naams, streaks, meditation history, favourite stories, and settings are stored entirely on your device. This personal devotional data is never uploaded to any server or transmitted to Garoono Technologies or any third party.
Content Updates
The App may, when internet is available, check for and download updated katha (story) content via remote configuration. This downloads story text only and never uploads anything about you.
Data Safeguard
Because your data is stored only on your device, uninstalling the App or clearing its app data will permanently delete your counts, history, and settings. We are not liable for any data loss that may occur on your device.
By using JapMala, you agree to:
Permitted Use
Use the Service only for lawful purposes
Use the Service in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
Use the App for its intended purpose of personal devotional practice and mantra counting
Prohibited Use
You must not:
Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or hack the App
Resell, redistribute, or commercialize the Service without permission
Modify, distribute, or create derivative works of the App's content without permission
Use the Service for any purpose that violates applicable laws
Our Rights
The JapMala app, including all content, UI designs, illustrations, mascot artwork, katha compilations, and trademarks, is owned by Garoono Technologies. All rights are reserved unless explicitly granted.
Your Rights
You retain full ownership of all session data, progress data, custom naams, and personal statistics generated through your use of the Service. You grant us permission to use aggregated, anonymized usage data (e.g., total sessions started across all users) for service improvement.
Content & Attributions
The kathayein (stories) are presented for personal devotional and cultural reading. The App may use open-source libraries and fonts, each subject to their respective licenses; attributions are available within the app.
Our Commitment
We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. JapMala is offline-first, and your personal devotional activity stays on your device.
Data Collection
We may collect, through optional third-party services:
Anonymous usage statistics (e.g., number of sessions started, aggregate feature usage)
Device information (device type, OS version)
App performance metrics (crash logs)
Data We Do Not Collect
Your personal chant counts, custom naams, or meditation history
Audio, microphone, or camera data (the App does not use them)

Firebase Remote Config: Content (kathayein) version management
Google Play Services / Apple Services: App distribution and updates
Your use of these services through our app is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies.
Availability
Core features — counting, naams, stats, meditation, and stories — work fully offline. Features requiring internet (analytics, crash reporting, content updates, notifications) depend on network availability.
Modifications
We reserve the right to:
Modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature of the Service
Improve or alter the Service at our discretion
Update or expand the katha content library
By You
You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. Uninstalling the App will remove all locally stored counts, sessions, and settings.
By Us
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service for violation of these Terms, misuse or abuse of the Service, or fraudulent activity.
Effect of Termination
Upon uninstalling the App, all locally stored data is removed from your device.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. We disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted or error-free operation.
We do not warrant that counting, streaks, or notifications will function without interruption under all conditions, including OS updates, device restarts, or changes to platform APIs.
The kathayein and related content are provided for personal devotional and informational purposes and are presented in good faith; we do not warrant the completeness or authoritativeness of any religious or cultural text.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW: We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages; loss of data; damages resulting from use or inability to use the Service; or any damages exceeding the amount you paid us (which, for a free app, is zero).
Some jurisdictions do not allow limitation of certain warranties or liabilities, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Garoono Technologies, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.
Governing Law: These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Dispute Resolution: Any disputes should first be attempted to be resolved through direct communication with us. If resolution is not possible, disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in India.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Updates will be posted within the app and at garoono.in/japmala/terms. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree with the changes, you should stop using the Service.
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Garoono Technologies regarding the use of JapMala and supersede all prior agreements.
