Counting Your Jaap Tap the central mala on the Jaap screen to count each chant. The 108-bead ring fills as you count, and you'll feel a gentle haptic pulse per bead (you can turn this off via App Haptics in Settings). At 108, the mala rolls over automatically and a guru-ashirwad blessing appears. Tap "Start New Mala" or close it to continue. Use Save to commit a sitting, Reset to discard, or Add to log a manual or back-dated count.
Selecting or Creating a Naam Tap the deity naam header at the top of the Jaap screen, or go to Settings → Select Naam, to switch between the default naams (Radhe Radhe, Hare Krishna, Om Namah Shivaya, Shree Ram, Gayatri, Hanuman). To create your own, choose Add/Edit and set a Hindi/English name, deity, target beads, and accent colour. Counts are tracked separately per naam.
Logging Past Counts To add counts for a previous date, open Settings → Add Naam Logs (or use Add on the Jaap screen). Pick the naam, the date, and the count — this lets you keep your history and streaks accurate even if you forgot to log on the day.
Using the Meditation Timer Launch the meditation timer from the Jaap header. Pick a duration (5 / 10 / 15 / 20 / 30 min) to enter the focus screen with a circular countdown and looping background music. Your screen stays awake during the session. If play/pause seems unresponsive, simply tap once and wait a moment — the audio is handled in the background.
Reading Kathayein (Stories) Open the Stories (कथाएँ) tab to browse 57 offline Hindi kathas. Swipe through the card deck to preview, then tap "पूरी कथा पढ़ें" to open the full story, where you can adjust the font size. Tap the heart on any card to favourite it, and view all saved stories on the Favourites screen.
Streaks Not Updating Your streak increases when you save a sitting on consecutive days. If your streak looks wrong, make sure you tapped Save (not just Reset) after chanting, and that your device date/time is correct. Force-close and reopen JapMala if needed. If the issue persists, email us with your device model and OS version.
Switching Language (हिन्दी / English) JapMala opens in Hindi by default. To switch, go to Settings → Language and choose हिन्दी or English — the entire UI updates live. Note that the kathayein (story content) remains in Hindi in both modes; only the app interface translates.
Light / Dark Mode Go to Settings → toggle Light/Dark mode. Your choice is saved and applied across the app, including the Saffron & Gold light theme and the dark variant.
Reminders Not Arriving JapMala can send a daily reminder to do your jaap. If notifications aren't arriving, make sure you allowed notification permission during onboarding, and check Settings → Apps → JapMala → Notifications (Android) or Settings → Notifications → JapMala (iOS) to confirm they're enabled.
Privacy & Offline Use JapMala is offline-first. All of your chant counts, sessions, custom mantras, streaks, meditation history, and favourite stories are stored locally on your device only — nothing about your personal devotional activity is uploaded or transmitted to any server. Works Fully Offline Counting, mantras, stats, meditation, and stories all work without an internet connection and without any login or account. Internet is only used for optional analytics, crash reporting, story content updates, and reminder notifications.
Resetting Your Count To clear your totals, go to Settings → Reset Count. This zeroes your counts on the device. This action affects your local data only.
