Vocaloid is a singing voice synthesizer software that was made released in 2004, you could add lyrics to the software and a generated voice would speak over the lyrics and sing as well making the song more unique. When the software was initially released it was intended to be in English and was also in Japanese as well. Vocaloid was not as popular when it first came out only a few artist used it when they wanted to try it out or if they wanted to mix it up. That was until 2007 when an employer from Crypton Future Media named Sasaki Wataru made a virtual singer known as Hatsune Miku who would put vocaloid into the spotlight in Japan. She become really popular when she came out and many other companies started making their own to follow their foot steps but none could reach the popularity that Hatsune Miku made for the vocaloid industry.
Hatsune Miku came into the industry like a storm she changed the way that people see vocaloid. She is one of the most iconic artist in Japan and has changed many things as well especially when doing live shows. When she was created she had a demo song and we saw what she is going to look as well. From there on she would make many songs that would become well known, her most popular song is "Anamanaguchi" and this song is what you would call a song about Hatsune Miku. She has been apart of many amazing live shows and she has been apart of Coachella twice, she first appeared in 2020 and then again in the most recent Coachella 2024. She is still really popular and many people love her and I am convinced that she is not going to go away. When she goes live she started out just on a screen or a see through screen as well, soon she would become 3D with the improvement of technology making a hologram of her to make her more life like.
Vocaloid is still be used today and is apart of many popular songs in Japan one is "Love me, Love me, Love me" by Kikuo. There is other popular virtual singers but they couldn't get into the same popular category as Hatsune Miku. Some of these other artist are Kagamine Rin, Kagamine Len, Megurine Luka, MEIKO, and KAITO these artist were all created by the same company as Hastune Miku. Vocaloid is still becoming more and more popular and it changed the way that an artist can use a generated voice and how a virtual singer can change the way the J-pop industry is seen.
