This page has been prepared as a reference for visitors from Japan and abroad who are coming to Osaka for the exhibition. We hope it will offer useful ideas for sightseeing and sketching while exploring the landscapes and streets of Osaka, Kyoto and Nara.

本ページは、展覧会を機に大阪を訪れる国内外の皆さまに、滞在中の観光やスケッチを楽しんでいただくための参考情報として作成しました。大阪・京都・奈良の風景や街並みに触れる際のヒントとしてご活用ください。

Osaka　大阪

1. Nakanoshima and Kitahama

1．中之島・北浜

Nakanoshima and Kitahama are located in central Osaka. The area includes rivers, bridges, historic Western-style buildings and modern office towers.

Possible subjects include Osaka City Central Public Hall, Nakanoshima Library, riverside views, bridges, historic buildings in Kitahama and commuters during the morning and evening.

中之島・北浜は大阪市の中心部に位置し、川、橋、歴史的な洋風建築、現代的なオフィスビルが見られる地域です。

大阪市中央公会堂、中之島図書館、川沿いの風景、橋、北浜の近代建築、朝夕の通勤風景などがあります。

2. Dotonbori, Hozenji Yokocho and Ura-Namba

2．道頓堀・法善寺横丁・裏なんば

Dotonbori is known for its large signs, lights, canal reflections and crowds.

Nearby Hozenji Yokocho has narrow stone-paved lanes, traditional buildings and Hozenji Temple. The atmosphere changes considerably between daytime and evening.

道頓堀は、大きな看板、照明、道頓堀川の水面に映る光、多くの通行人などで知られています。

近くの法善寺横丁には、石畳の細い路地、昔ながらの建物、法善寺があります。昼間と夕方以降では、街の雰囲気が大きく変わります。

3. Shinsekai

3．新世界

Shinsekai is a traditional entertainment and commercial district centred around Tsutenkaku Tower.

The area contains old shopping streets, restaurants, colourful signs and a mixture of local residents and visitors.

新世界は、通天閣を中心とした昔ながらの繁華街です。

古い商店街、飲食店、色彩豊かな看板があり、地元の人々と観光客が行き交う地域です。

4. Osaka Castle Park

4．大阪城公園

The grounds include Osaka Castle, moats, large stone walls, historic gates and parkland.

Views include the castle across the moat, Gokurakubashi Bridge and the contrast between the historic castle and the modern buildings of Osaka Business Park.

大阪城公園には、天守閣、堀、大規模な石垣、城門、公園などがあります。

堀越しに見る天守閣、極楽橋、歴史的な城郭と大阪ビジネスパークの現代建築を組み合わせた風景などが見られます。

Kyoto　京都

5. Gion Shirakawa

5．祇園白川

Gion Shirakawa is an area with a narrow stream, willow trees, small bridges, stone-paved streets and traditional wooden townhouses.

The area is generally quieter in the early morning and becomes crowded later in the day.

祇園白川には、白川の流れ、柳、小さな橋、石畳、伝統的な木造の町家があります。

早朝は比較的静かですが、時間が遅くなると観光客で混雑します。

6. Nanzenji Temple, the Aqueduct and Keage

6．南禅寺・水路閣・蹴上

The brick aqueduct within the Nanzenji Temple grounds has a series of arches surrounded by trees and traditional temple buildings.

The nearby Keage Incline contains old railway tracks and sloping landscapes.

南禅寺境内の煉瓦造りの水路閣には、連続するアーチがあり、周囲の木々や寺院建築と組み合わさった風景が見られます。

近くの蹴上インクラインには、古い線路や傾斜のある景観が残っています。

7. Fushimi Inari and the Fushimi Sake District

7．伏見稲荷大社・伏見の酒蔵地区

Fushimi Inari Taisha is known for its long rows of vermilion torii gates. The area becomes very crowded during the day and is generally quieter in the early morning.

The Fushimi sake district includes traditional wooden warehouses, canals, small boats and waterside scenery.

伏見稲荷大社は、朱色の鳥居が連続する景観で知られています。日中は非常に混雑し、早朝は比較的人が少なくなります。

伏見の酒蔵地区には、伝統的な木造の酒蔵、運河、舟、水辺の風景などがあります。

8. Ohara

8．大原

Ohara is a rural mountain community in northern Kyoto. The area includes stone walls, moss, farmhouses, fields, narrow paths and mountain scenery.

Winter temperatures can be considerably lower than in central Kyoto, and snowfall is possible.

大原は京都市北部にある山里です。石垣、苔、農家、田畑、細い道、山の風景などがあります。

冬は京都市中心部より気温がかなり低くなり、雪が降る場合もあります。

9. Saga-Toriimoto

9．嵯峨鳥居本

Saga-Toriimoto is located north of central Arashiyama. The area contains preserved traditional houses, stone-paved roads, thatched roofs and views toward the mountains.

Compared with the central Arashiyama area, there are generally fewer visitors.

嵯峨鳥居本は、嵐山中心部から北に位置しています。伝統的な家並み、石畳、茅葺き屋根、山へ続く道などが残っています。

嵐山中心部と比較すると、一般的に観光客は少なくなります。

10. Nara Park, Todaiji Temple and Nigatsudo Hall

10．奈良公園・東大寺・二月堂

Nara Park contains free-roaming deer, ancient temples, large trees, stone lanterns and open parkland.

Todaiji Temple is known for its large wooden structures. Nigatsudo Hall includes wooden buildings, stone steps, walls and views over the Nara Basin.

奈良公園には、鹿、古い寺院、大木、石灯籠、広い公園の風景があります。

東大寺は大規模な木造建築で知られています。二月堂には、木造建築、石段、土塀、奈良盆地を見渡す景観があります。

11. Naramachi

11．ならまち

Naramachi is an old residential and commercial district with traditional townhouses, lattice windows, narrow lanes and small shops.

It presents a smaller-scale townscape than the large temples and open spaces of Nara Park.

ならまちは、伝統的な町家、格子窓、細い路地、小さな商店などが残る住宅・商業地域です。

奈良公園の大規模な寺院や広い空間とは異なる、生活に近い町並みを見ることができます。

12. Hasedera Temple

12．長谷寺

Hasedera Temple is built on a wooded mountainside and is known for its long covered staircase.

The grounds include repeated pillars, stone steps, lanterns and temple buildings located at different levels. There are many steps, and shaded areas can be very cold in winter.

長谷寺は木々に覆われた山の斜面に建ち、長い屋根付きの登廊で知られています。

境内には、連続する柱、石段、灯籠、高低差のある伽藍などがあります。階段が多く、冬の日陰は非常に冷える場合があります。

Information About Sketching

スケッチに関する情報

At some temples, shrines and other cultural properties, sketching with watercolours or other paints may be prohibited, even when pencil sketching is permitted.

The use of paints may also be restricted in narrow streets, on busy pavements or in places where an easel, chair or art materials could obstruct pedestrians. Rules may vary according to the location and the level of congestion on the day.

Before beginning a watercolour sketch, please check with the staff or site management whenever possible. In restricted or crowded locations, it may be necessary to make only small pencil sketches or take photographs for reference and complete the painting later at the hotel or another suitable place.

A compact sketchbook and portable watercolour set may be easier to use than a large easel, particularly in Kyoto and Nara.

寺院や神社、文化財などでは、鉛筆によるスケッチは認められていても、水彩絵の具などを使用したスケッチが禁止されていることがあります。

また、狭い道路、通行量の多い歩道、イーゼルや椅子、画材を置くことで歩行者の妨げになる場所では、絵の具の使用や長時間のスケッチが制限される場合があります。規則は場所や当日の混雑状況によって異なります。

水彩で描き始める前に、可能な場合は施設の係員や管理者に確認してください。制限のある場所や混雑した場所では、小さな鉛筆スケッチや資料写真の撮影にとどめ、ホテルなどに戻ってから作品を仕上げる必要があります。

特に京都と奈良では、大きなイーゼルよりも、小型のスケッチブックと携帯用の水彩セットの方が使用しやすい場合があります。
