I made a change. The change has been effectively reverted. I'm changing it back to my version. Here's why: Having that link on the top implies that all of those things mentioned in the article are not available in Windows Phone, where most of the things are actually in Windows Phone 8. So it really is something that belongs on just WinPho7. McKay (talk) 21:49, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I never claimed that the Nokia X platform was part of Windows Phone, I placed it under "related" because it's graphical user interface is based on Windows Phone's, when doing the edit in the template I even said that I'd like to dispute placing it among related or not, so far I feel neutral about it being or not being there and would remove it, let's have this discussion in the talk page of the concerned template so other editors can say yay's and nay's concerning the issue, of-course it's presence/absence in the "related" section of the template is purely based on the superficial similarities of the platforms and that Nokia/Microsoft Mobile Oy developed Nokia X in vision of copying Windows Phone, the relation is similar to Microsoft Vs. Linspire (previously Lindows) though less as at-least these 2 (two) were compatible between each other, again it's only there because of the superficial similarities and I won't mind it not being there.

I know that WP:ASTONISH says that you should never use contemporary names for example as say "Germany" instead of "the Holy Roman Empire", even in historical contexts, but I wonder if using Groove instead of Xbox Music works here as on Windows Phone the name still appears as Xbox Music and it might fall under WP:TOOSOON. --118.71.102.111 (talk) 05:10, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm trying to take advantage of as many things as possible that I can use on a daily basis that would fit into my workflow, one of those things is phone for Windows. I remember test driving this app a long time ago and it would constantly freeze and not work correctly, it was basically useless almost as if it was in a beta stage. Using it now and it's come leaps and bounds, it may not be as seamless as iOS ecosystem with their macbooks and iPhones, but boy does it make life easier as a windows user. You can make calls, copy photos back and forth and other files to your phone and to the PC, you can send text messages, get alerts, mirror the phone screen on your PC, and probably a bunch of other stuff I haven't even discovered yet.

Oh and finally it's interesting that none of the tech reviewers or text sites really go into this feature that's so useful they usually take 30 seconds to talk about dexs but they don't really get into phone for windows at all, I think that could really bring a lot of iOS users on board to our site.

Windows Phone 7 is the first release of the Windows Phone mobile client operating system, released worldwide on October 21, 2010, and in the United States on November 8, 2010. It runs on the Windows CE 6.0 kernel.[2]

To provide a more consistent experience between devices, Windows Phone 7 devices are required to meet a certain set of hardware requirements, which Andy Lees, Microsoft's senior vice president of mobile communications business, described as being "tough, but fair."[75] All Windows Phone 7 devices, at minimum, must include the following:[76][77]

This question has probably been asked before as well but i want to relive the nostalgia of the windows phone. Before i had a lumia 1520 yes the big yellow one and i loved it to death until it got stolen. So what would be the best big ish windows phone with good fast performance still or is the 1520 still good in the current age in terms of performance.

XDA Developers was founded by developers, for developers. It is now a valuable resource for people who want to make the most of their mobile devices, from customizing the look and feel to adding new functionality.

I'm working on a project where a program running on the mobile phone needs to communicate with a program running on the PC it's connected to. Ideally, I'd like to use USB, WiFi, whatever to communicate.

WCF on Windows Mobile requires Compact Framework 3.5 to be installed on your device. You also need the "Windows Mobile power toys" to be able to generate compatible proxies to call from Windows mobile.

Team members can listen and talk to other team members who are connected through Walkie Talkie on the same channel. Users continue to receive transmissions until they tap Stop listening. Walkie Talkie supports communicating in standard and private channels in Teams. Shared channels aren't supported.

I was interested in the trial version of Mobile Connect until I found out that the software has to be installed on my mobile device. How is this possible when I am unable to sync my mobile device with my PC?

Nice to see the Xperia X1 in the thread. It was the device that got me into custom ROMs back in the day and it also make me realize that my appreciation of WM is stronger now than ever before. If there would be a newly made device running the system I would be happy to return since I find Android (post-Nougat) to be unacceptable (the GUI is drastically degraded into filth, anti-root and anti-ROM measures commonplace, SafetyNet compound this, lower price/performance/quality ratio of devices, lack of diversity in the market et al) while iOS is OK as a dumb terminal (Apple Pay is excellent and the system is perfectly fine for simple tasks such as talk/text and shopping apps, banking/payments and the like).

Windows Mobile together with XDA and devices like the X1 and Touch Pro 2 were as close as we ever came to being "laptop replacements" before the development went the wrong way. The main issue is that smartphones has turned into terminals/feature phones with "apps" that are more akin to "Java Midlets" rather than the fully featured applications offered for WM. It is also interesting to note that mobile devices are the only pieces of electronics that have seen drastic price increases, thus breaking the normal "rule of electronics" where "specific performance level become cheaper as technology progresses while performance increase at a given price point". This is also why a $1500 smartphone in 2022 feels like a toy (and is a toy as far as capabilities goes) in comparison with something like a Nokia 9210 Communicator or (more recently) HTC Touch Pro 2 or HD2. The only "tangible" areas where progress has been made is mostly camera and display but feature set and flexibility not to mention quality and sophistication of apps and the operating system is seriously downgraded and dumbed down.

If I could load windows 10 mobile onto the lumia 1020 (it was possible but I think those have since been shuttered), I would be using it right now. I need to surf the net, text, make calls and take photos (the 1020 still destroys most phones out today in image quality). Thats it with my phone. Oh, and hotspot wifi from it.

the screen was an oled with 1280x780 ish resolution it was awesome. I had to replace it and the way you get into the phone was one torx screw in the sim tray slot. It unlocked the screen with a crazy engineered mechanism. You could replace everything by taking that loosening that one screw. Still the best phone I have ever owned. Running windows 10 mobile it was fast, smooth as silk, the camera still bests stuff from today and the battery life was good enough to get through a day and a bit in 2013. It never officially got w10m but you could get it windows preview/insider flight. Now, I am not sure if you can load it on or not. If I could, I would buy one today!

I had a Hitachi windows mobile pocket PC. I was young. Battery life was awful but good for the time. I would read play age of empires watch pron ect YouTube didn't even exist. Imagine investing in YouTube back then. I think the next big thing is graphene. Wish things advanced faster. I think ai in 5 years will change the world and the new world will be juxtaposed to the current world

Why everybody wants a client when everything can be run in a webbrowser? and when talking about outlook: This is the most worst software regarding basic and open web-standards. It lacks even simple webdav protocols. Of course I understand, many people in business uses outlook/exchange, but does this argument makes it better? Riding a prehistoric client-server solution with all its security and usability flaws and bottlenecks? IMHO Micosoft itself will sooner or later axe Outlook/Exchange in favour of their own cloud web services. it would be a waste of time in supporting either Outlook or Windows with a fat, overblown client. For sure somebody will manage to create an Outlook plugin (and maybe you or your company could support him/her) but it would be a mistake if Nextcloud would add every feature and function into the file-clients.

IMHO and with my background with such kind of management and users: Let them work in their well knwon Ecosystem (and fail due limitations, security issues, licenses, TCO etc). Do not try to get lost somewhere between non-transparent 3rd party systems, applications or interfaces where other players set the rules. Stick to simple Mozilla Webbrowser and Web Applications. Present this not as alternative but as something complementary. Give them the a bit of time and sooner or later they will start to use and to ask the right questions (e.g. why windows or outlook do not support basic web and security standards?)

The webclient indicates calls with an icon. This requires you to have the browser already open. There is no sound or other signal. Last time I just called someone on Skype and left a message that I like to talk with them on Talk. That worked as the Skype client has a ringtone and popups appearing on the desktop.

BTW there is a very round about way to get a desktop app on Linux, install anbox (android environment layer), install FDroid in that and from there install Nextcloud android app and Nextcloud talk android app

Though Windows 10 Mobile's demise is undeniable, Microsoft's mobile strategy has arguably always included a transition from a mobile OS on phone hardware to full Windows on context-conforming Pocket PCs. That vision is materializing as Windows Core OS and Microsoft's rumored "Project Andromeda" story unfold. 0852c4b9a8
