The Training Schedule for 2026 is now available and included in this newsletter! Most of our classes will be held on Wednesday evenings, but we will meet a few times on other days due to building availability. Training locations bounce between the Exhibit Building, Barn A and the Indoor Arena, so be sure to check the location on the schedule for each class. Most classes will start the year training in the Exhibit Building and then move over to Barn A. We also have several nights reserved in the Indoor Arena for Agility training and Obedience training on the dirt arena floor. Sometimes classes may be moved or cancelled. Notification of any changes will be emailed to the address listed in 4HOnline. Questions about the schedule can be directed to the Dog Superintendent at ajanicki@comcast.net.
Orientation for NEW Dog Project families will be held on Wednesday, February 11th in Barn A from 6:30 - 8:00 pm. If this is your first year in the 4-H Dog Project, we strongly encourage you to attend this meeting. (No dogs at this meeting.) We will explain the project requirements, training class placement and schedules, and will discuss recommended training equipment. Dog project trainers and volunteers will be there to answer any questions you have about your dog or the project.
Beginning in January, Dog Project trainers will be scheduling one-on-one meetings with new families to meet your pup and to evaluate individual training needs. These informal meet ups will give you an opportunity to share any particular training concerns you might have, and will help our trainers better prepare for our first few training classes.
For safety reasons, ALL dogs participating in the 4-H Dog Project MUST be current on their vaccinations for Rabies, Parvo and Distemper. Bordetella is an optional vaccine, but is strongly encouraged. Now is a good time to confirm your pup’s vaccination status! In order to participate in group dog training, members are required to provide proof of current vaccination PRIOR to attending classes. You can email a copy of your shot record to ajanicki@comcast.net before training classes start!
