My name is Jannik Kochert, and I am a doctoral student in mathematical linguistics at the Institute for the Interdisciplinary Study of Language Evolution (ISLE) at the University of Zurich, supervised by Balthasar Bickel, Sebastian Krapp, and Nina Kazanina. Further, I am a doctoral researcher at the NCCR Evolving Language.
My research project titled "Mathematical Encodings of Hierarchies in Language" focuses on the hierarchical and sequential structures of a sentence in language and on their interplay. My research explores how mathematical perspectives can contribute to interdisciplinary projects such as the study of language evolution, offering my background in mathematics to help provide a precise and rigorous formal perspective on structures in language. Before starting my PhD, I earned a BSc and MSc in Mathematics from ETH Zurich.
