Ocean literacy for sustainable coastal communities
I am the technician in charge of providing ocean education to fishermen from coastal communities and I lead diving trips to clean up underwater seabeds and monitor marine biodiversity.
I am a researcher part of the Amiguitos del océano foundation, with whom I started working as a technical biologist and ocean educator in 2018. We currently carry out the "Ocean literacy for coastal communities" program endorsed by IOC-UNESCO, where my specific work within this project is to provide ocean education to artisanal fishermen and lead monthly scientific diving trips to clean the seabed within a marine protected area in Ecuador called "Rerva marina Islote El Pelado" or REMAPE, and also subtidal monitoring to analyze the status of marine populations.
Sustainable Ocean Alliance Hub Ecuador
I am the president of the Ecuador chapter of the global organization Sustainable Ocean Alliance (SOA Ecuador), an organization that empowers young leaders to fight for the ocean and create solutions to the biggest problems of our seas, both in the scientific, social, legal and technological aspects. I lead 5 subchapters of young people in Ecuador from different provinces of my country with whom we formed this organization. We have brought proposals in favor of the ocean to be heard by presidents of Ecuador, led large events to disseminate ocean knowledge, we have carried out projects with triple environmental impact taking into account the economic, social and environmental aspects in each of our causes.
