This is a series of work I have created for my senior seminar at the University of Missouri- St. Louis. Throughout my work, I've studied human anatomy, perception of oneself, and the concept of "body love" or one's self love. My goal was to challenge societal standards and emphasize the beauty of the natural human body.
Printed Poster
This was the first project I had completed. I was inspired by the idea that love is liberating-- love yourself and set yourself free. (Created digitally after completing sketchbook drawings.)
Screen Print
Being the second piece I completed, I took a variety of gestural sketchbook drawings, scanned them, and increased the contrast to get a printable image. I then combined these images into a collage and screen printed my design. My goal was to place different body types next to one another to see how they affect those which differ around them.
Charcoal Drawing
Stemming from a class assignment, I drew a live model for 50 minutes. After completing my first drawing, I then redrew the same figure for another 50 minutes only using memory. My goal was to capture my own perception of the model in comparison to the model's reality, emphasizing the difference between the reality of our being and our own misconceptions of ourselves and those around us.
Paint on a Flat Sheet
For this project, I got a close friend and painted our bodies. We then laid down on a flat bed sheet to see how gravity captures our physical impression. In the center, we attempted to capture the space between two people hugging by repainting ourselves, hugging, then laying down to capture the imprint of each other's body on our own.
Screen Print w/ Mixed Media
Using the digital imagery, I created a distorted screen print of body charts with hand painted details. My goal was to show the distortion body charts create in an individual's own mind. We as people differ beyond the measures of a chart.
Gouache on a Flat Sheet
For this project, I taped a flat sheet around the border of my shower. I covered myself in gouache paint and pushed my body into the flat sheet. By doing this, I was able to leave impressions of my body in the way that people see me. I was inspired by Yves Klien's work from the 60's and followed the same motions that he had his models use in his own work.
"Stop Hiding Your Smile" was the first piece I created in my teeth series. In efforts to focus more on my own insecurities in a way that showcased my undesirable features as art, I dove deep into an exploration of my physical features and what makes me vulnerable. My teeth are one of my biggest insecurities, but looking at this collage, I can't help but smile.
mixed media on watercolor paper
This piece started as a tracing of my face from the photo above. In efforts focus on my smile, I left the face blank and focused on the mouth. As my teeth were something I was still learning to love, I added dripping water as a representation of tears. This piece emphasized how vulnerable I make myself when I smile.
plaster casting
Here they are! An extremely realistic representation of my teeth. In order to create this piece, I used dental alginate to create a mold of my top and bottom layers of teeth. From there, I filled the mold with plaster. After curing, I painted the teeth to better represent my teeth. In efforts to truly showcase my insecurity, I brought the focus to strictly my teeth and displayed a permanent "smile."
Digital Design
As a start of an exploration to discovering how to love my own insecurities, I created a design using a tracing of my own pinkies. This piece was the start to my pinkies series and a reminder to me that my own insecurities are beautiful and make me unique.
plaster casting
"I Promise" is an exploration of my developing love for my insecurities. Pinkies aren't something people normally focus on, but in the past I've had people make comments about my crooked pinkies. In photos, I would hide my hands to avoid showing my pinkies. As I've been using this semester to emphasize self love, I've decided to showcase my insecurities as something beautiful.
plaster casting
In efforts to display my pinkies in a way that showed my love for something I used to see as an insecurity, I made a mold of my hands with my pinkies forming a heart. From there, I filled the mold with plaster, to set this love for my crooked pinkies in stone.

For this project, I spent the month of March creating a series of designs. Using a combination of old work, new work, and random bursts of inspiration, I created 31 original designs that focused on my own personal insecurities. Due to an incredible amount of inspiration, I ended up finishing 31 designs within the first week of March.

Following the hand series, I wanted to explore female sexuality without being graphic. This led me to displaying an intimate kiss. This is the first of the mini series.
