Jane Caruso Memorial Scholarship

Calling educators! Poetry by the Sea is a community of poets and educators committed to diversity, inclusiveness, and mutual respect in the pursuit of artistic excellence and creative growth. The yearly Conference, held in May, welcomes poets of all backgrounds in an environment that values and supports each person’s unique contribution and voice. Our picturesque retreat setting on the Connecticut shore facilitates an easy exchange of ideas among attendees, faculty, and guest speakers, and is an ideal locale for creative inspiration.

The Jane Caruso Memorial Scholarship to Poetry by the Sea is a scholarship for educators who would like to deepen their commitment to poetic craft and is open any educator currently employed at a community college, two- or four-year university, and whose total teaching experience (as of May 27, 2025) does not exceed five years. In 2025, the conference will take place from Tuesday, May 27 through Friday, May 30 at Mercy by the Sea in Madison.

As an educator who taught English at Trumbull High School from 2003 to 2018, it brings me great joy to present this scholarship in memory of my grandmother, Jane Caruso

I look forward to seeing you by the sea!
