Born and raised in the coastal town of Southampton in the UK, I've always loved the sea. In my twenties, I moved to the French Riviera where I worked in luxury yacht marketing. During these years, I developed a passion for the beauty and craftsmanship of these vessels.
It was my time spent working on a sailing yacht that captured my heart though. I discovered the freedom and adventure of traveling by sea, unhindered by traffic jams or delays, just appreciating the journey itself. It was in those moments, surrounded by the endless horizon, that I felt most alive.
I graduated with a degree in French and political science after studying art at college, because, despite my love for art, I initially doubted its viability as a career. I remained dedicated to my craft though, attending classes, exploring various mediums, and showcasing my work locally ( take a look at my earlier creations here: www.jdart.fr).
I really felt drawn to painting seascapes, and when I shared my work with colleagues and friends, the response was overwhelmingly positive. Then, a charter broker saw in my art the potential to create something special for his client. Their request for a custom yacht portrait made me realise that I could marry my passion for yachts with my love of painting, and perhaps fill a niche in the industry.
Now, as a full-time artist, I pour my heart and soul into every painting, striving to capture the essence of each yacht and the spirit of the sea. Through my art, I aim to convey the exhilaration and freedom that yachting brings, evoking a sense of adventure and wanderlust in those who view my work.
It brings me immense joy to know that my paintings serve as cherished mementos, capturing the essence of unforgettable journeys on the open water.
