Michelle was introduced to Rally in 1999 and became an official for the Brisbane Sporting Car Club. Michelle and her partner Jason often volunteered on roadblocks and time controls at the International Rally of QLD.
While spectating at the Australian round of the World Rally Championship in 2015, Michelle was invited to enter a competition run by Rally NSW. The competition winner would be trained as a Rally Co-Driver, supplied with all the safety gear, and teamed up with a Driver to compete in 6 events in 2016.
After rounds of interviews and a final 4 shootout which consisted of a morning of training from Australian Rally Co-Drivers Coral Taylor and Bernie Webb, then calling pace notes for Australian Rally Champion Molly Taylor, Michelle was announced the winner.
Michelle spent the next 12 months getting as much experience as possible with various drivers in different cars.
In 2017 Michelle became Cameron Henry’s co-Driver. Together they competed in the QLD Rally Novice Series. Michelle came 1st outright Co-Driver of the series.
During the same year, Michelle and Jason began building their rally car.
In 2018 Michelle and Cameron began competing in the QLD Rally Championship and secured a couple of top-10 finishes. Michelle also began driving George, her 1996 Subaru Impreza at Rallysprints the same year.
In 2019 Cameron was unable to compete, so with some encouragement from the QLD Rally Community, Michelle entered the QLD Rally Novice Series as a Driver. Of the 4 rounds, Michelle won 3 and became the Novice Driver champion. She also became the first QLD Competitor in history to win both the Novice Co-Driver and Novice Driver Series.
Introducing Kassandra Brumley to the J&S Rally Team as Co-Driver for Michelle.
Michelle and Kass were introduced through Race Chix® Motorsport and their free networking community, which connects like-minded women giving them a safe and encouraging environment to share their passion.
Kass is new to the Rally world but not motorsport, growing up with a love of Australian Super Cars which she shares with her Dad. Rumour has it there is a photo of Kass and her Dad enjoying the Dakar Rally too… Kass is sitting in a washing basket in front of an old school TV pretending to race the washing basket! Let’s hope that surfaces!!
That passion for motorsport saw Kass working for Cannon Australia as one of the Cannon Collective, the brand’s in-house team of photography ambassadors who provide free and paid experiences across Australia, including trackside shoots featuring V8 supercars.
Putting the camera down, Kass jumped into George for the first time in February 2021 at the Future Auto Test and Tune in Jimna.
Quickly realizing the addictive nature of gravel rally, Kass has put hours into training and practice to become a very competent Co-Driver in just a few months.
Michelle and Kass have spent several weekends on-location training on road book and pace notes. Throughout 2021 the girls have had a great mix of competing with provided Road books and pace notes, including the KCF winter stages where the girls wrote and called their own notes.
