We are camping!
Bring your tents, tarps, sleeping bags, and pads. There are grassy and woodsy areas with many even, comfortable campsites.
Temperatures at night dip into the 50s, so bring layers.
Van camping is welcome; no RV hookups on the land.
There is an outdoor kitchen (for breakfast preparation only); more details can be found under Food.
There are 3 compostable toilets (aka cedar outhouses).
There is 1 outdoor shower with warm water, a spacious hot tub, cedar sauna, and outdoor cold plunge.
The most scenic and ceremonial way to get to Orcas Island is via ferry from Anacortes, WA.
The ferry from Anacortes to Orcas and back cost approx. $15/passenger and $55/vehicle including driver. All fares are roundtrip.
Please note:
Carpooling helps with the cost and the scramble for ferry reservations.
Kenmore Air flies to Eastsound, Orcas Island, from Everett for approx. $230 one-way. This is an easy spot for catching a ride to the land.
It is possible to take a seaplane to Orcas Island (West Sound Marina) from Kenmore or South Lake Union in Seattle for approx. $400 roundtrip. The airline does not allow more than 25 lbs. of luggage (consider your camping gear). There are luggage size restrictions as well. If choosing this option, you'll need to arrange for a ride from the Westsound airport on Orcas to the land.
Lunch and dinner are included in the price. The provided meals are:
Dinner on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday
Lunch on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday
You are responsible for breakfast.
The outdoor kitchen on the land has a gas stove, toasters, sink, potable water, and utensils (wooden spoons, spatulas, a few knives).
Please bring your own plates, bowls, mugs, silverware, spices, oil, etc.
We are partnering with local businesses that source from local and organic foods as much as possible.
Meals are wholesome, varied, fresh, plentiful, and delicious! We plan for all food restrictions indicated on the registration form. We care about your well-being and aim at the impossible fart-free diet.*
*Excellent wording adapted from CI Salt Spring Island.
We refer to the space where we will be camping, eating breakfast and dinner, and doing some of the dancing as "the land." The land is a 12-acre property owned and cared for by our wonderful host, Catiya. The land is a 20-25 minute drive from Eastsound.
Eastsound is the main town on Orcas Island. Eastsound has a grocery store, food co-op, coffee shops, restaurants, and a great farmer's market. Going "into town" means going to Eastsound. This is where the dance space is located.
Eastsound is where we go to dance during the day, eat lunch, and return to dance some evenings. The dance space is called Oddfellows - many great dance memories have been made here! We refer to it as Oddfellows or "the space."
