Hi everyone! Welcome to my storybook website for our Mythology-Folklore class. I will be posting a series of stories about how birds can send omens in people’s lives. My storybook, called Take Flight, will be made up a few chapters, each one with a different setting and characters, but having the topic of birds in common. I gained inspiration to write about birds (although they aren’t my favorite animal) from the story Myths and Legends of the Great Plains by Katharine Berry Judson, which I read this for class. Birds aren’t always portrayed positively, but I would like to show them in a good way where they only help people. My goal for this storybook is to use my imagination and creative ideas to create realistic stories to read for entertainment. Although I don’t have very much storytelling experience prior to this class, I hope to create a few stories that hold a positive message and are fun to read. I hope you all enjoy what I come up with!
Chapter 1 will be set in Africa with a young girl named Bahati, which means, good fortune/good luck as the main character. She is born into poverty and has a very rough life, but an interaction with a bird causes her life to turn around. After reading stories from African Jungle Tales by C.J. Bender I knew I wanted to use Africa as a location in one of my stories.
Chapter 2 will be set in California. A young couple expecting twin babies are the main characters of the story. When there is a problem with the birth, they still end up with a miracle in the end. In this story, the bird and the couple have multiple interactions throughout the course of the story and they eventually realize there is more to the bird’s appearances than just pure coincidence.
Chapter 3 takes place in Korea and an old man uses the signs from a woodpecker to find peace after tragically losing his wife. He seems to have lost himself and all of his hope since his wife was the only family he really had left. The bird is able to bring light into a dark time and I think this story is great for people who are feeling lost in their struggle.
All of these stories show people who are going through extremely hard times, but their messes are turned into messages that help them find happiness and acceptance of the situations. I hope anyone reading can see the positivity in them and believe in the miracles life throws our way. I am looking forward to creating this storybook and I hope you all enjoy reading!!
