When students are in their 1st semester, we observe six clinics related to communicating with clients over telehealth or in person. Below is a SOAP note on a client I observed in telehealth.
Reflection
This semester, I was able to observe six clinics, and I saw how possible it is to conduct a session over the Internet in Telehealth. The client I observed to create the SOAP note was a girl in her preteens who fell from a horse and received many concussions. Her goals were to improve her memory, time management, and vestibular skills. I was really glad to have witnessed her progress. She was doing better in school and was getting better in her motions. As an OTAS who would take the OTAS 2nd year position in the clinic, I was able to see how to transition between different activities. The OTAS who was managing the session would listen to the client's reactions and responses to the treatments. She would then tell the client their plan and how they will move forward. It was not abrupt and left breathing room for the client. It flowed at the client's pace and allowed them to enjoy the moment. I hope to hold that level of professionalism when I take their position as an OTAS.
