"we tell ourselves stories in order to live"

I have just completed my PhD at the Centre for Women's Studies, University of York where I researched women's responses to contemporary beauty ideals. I am a recipient of the university's Overseas Research Scholarship and my research profile can be viewed here.
Throughout my doctoral research, I have been actively involved in organising numerous events, conferences and workshops, presenting papers at conferences, and participating in various public engagement activities. This includes speaking as a finalist at a Falling Walls Lab (Surrey) and winning the People's Choice Award for the UK National Vitae Three Minute Thesis competition, both in 2018.
Prior to beginning my PhD, I served as a writer/journalist for over a decade in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, writing for English-medium newspapers, magazines and PR organisations; I have also written for several popular websites/blogs and started my own blog, a beauty full mind, in 2015.
A selected portfolio of my published work can be viewed here.
