Here was my concept for Madame Minutes Well, I wanted it to look broken down and pierced together, almost sinister.
In the end I decided it would be better to create a hexagonal base with 3ft supports and 1.15 '3ft sheets to clad the sides, as I loved the hexagonal shape.
Here was the final well. I loved the way it ended up looking!
Due to me running around everywhere, I asked the set design assistant to paint and shade this one and it turned out perfect!
Initially I planned to add a bucket but due to it cluttering the design and making it difficult to move, I had it removed from the design.
The Apple stand I wanted resembled a classic vender stall with apples practically falling out of the boxes with these posters… I was inspired by the apple and the Evil Queen's hand from the 1937 Snow White film.
For Cinderella’s fireplace I considered many options, I considered a stone brick, but I felt it would be too simple! So I moved onto blues. In my mood board the colours are very pastel and soft but to tie it to the set better I decided a darker blue marble would be nicer. Bertie, the set assistant painted this, using my drawing as a reference. I added the class slipper, a bucket and other set dressing to make it look lived in.
Before one of the 10AM matinee shows, my stage manager approached me and asked if I could help out with something. She told me that Jack was not happy with the abs Gerald originally had and asked if I could draw some new ones…
I cut a piece of cardboard to be circular and found a scrap wooden pole that I attached to the “clock face” and I added bones to the staff to give it a sinister villainous look. I spray painted it black and added copper flecks to tie it in with the set and her costume more.
