'Eggward'

Role: Level Design (Team Project)

Team Size: 4

Duration: 2 days (July 2020)

Genre: Adventure

Engine: Unity

This was my team's submission for Game Maker Toolkit's 2020 Game Jam. The theme was "Out of Control," so my friends and I brainstormed ideas until one of us suggested a game where you roll an unlikely object around a series of levels, akin to Super Monkey Ball (2001). We decided this object should be an egg, when one of us tried rolling an egg around on a kitchen counter, to little degrees of success.

Our finished prototype, Eggward, is very much playable (link below) but certainly reflects the theme of the project. You must roll an egg around a couple of levels, collecting smaller eggs in order to proceed. Obviously, controlling the egg isn't very straightforward, which led to some interesting design challenges, as well as some very fun gameplay.

'ET FM'

Role: Audio Design / Voice Acting (Team Project)

Team Size: 8

Duration: 2 days (January 2018)

Genre: Puzzle

Engine: Unity

This was my team's submission for the Global Game Jam 2018, and the first game I ever worked on. The title stands for "Extra-Terrestrial Frequency Modulation."

Your job is to listen for unusual broadcasts on a special radio set. You can use the setup in front of you to change frequencies, detect transmissions that are out of the ordinary, and shut them down. The idea was that aliens are transmitting broadcasts, and you need to get to the bottom of it.

At the time, I had no experience developing assets or working in-engine, so I approached the project as a learning opportunity. I ended up contributing the game's dialogue that you hear from the radio set. I brought my professional microphone to campus, and set up in Abertay's recording studio to produce the game's audio, with the help of the sound designer.
