My name is James Grieb, and I'm currently a Senior Mechanical Engineering student at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. In my spare time, I like to develop and create my own creations. I enjoy creating electronic devices using Arduino and Raspberry Pi. I also built a small workshop that I use to create various forms of woodwork. I get an enormous amount of satisfaction through using my engineering education every day in my various hobbies. I hope that the engineering skills I've developed through my studies, as well as personal hobbies, will make me a favorable candidate to work in a professional engineering environment.
I would describe myself as a self starter, who's always looking to improve myself in some new way. Whether it's taking extra coding classes in my spare time, building some robots, or working in my wood shop, I'm always trying to be productive.
I started my trend of relatively expensive hobbies at a young age. In 5th grade, I went on my first roller coaster, and was immediately attached. Using the relatively large collection of K'NEX in our house, I began constructing massive rides around the house, each one bigger than the next. I connected with a forum of other kids who all built their own custom roller coasters. I even filmed and produced music videos for each of them! The only roller coaster I ever built in my actual bedroom, one I decided to name Barricade, is shown on the left.
Moving on to college forced me to take a break from building my own roller coasters. But it quickly became clear that I had found my calling. I immediately fell in love with engineering, and was absolutely certain it was the right subject for me. My internship with Victaulic only solidified this long-held belief. Although I was unable to work an internship in the summer of 2019 due to summer courses, I got to opportunity to work at Six Flags as an entertainer during the winter, and got to observe all the amazing rides from a new, more educated engineering perspective. I couldn't be more excited to enter the workforce and put my skills to the test.
