Over the summer of 2024 I worked for Leviton in there network solutions team. In this role I worked with both the Process and Product Engineering teams to oversee the production of category cables. My primary tasks consisted of performing quality checks on the finished cables to ensure that they passed standards required under ISO.
Another one of my tasks was reviewing current standard operating procedures (SOP's) and testing them to ensure that they are easy to follow and gave the proper results. Along with this role I reviewed ASTM standards to create a new test method for a type of final outer jacket around the finished cable to check adhesive properties.
My largest project that I worked on was resdesigning a mechanical part that would help in the twisting operation that would twist the cables together. The piece that I created underwent many prototype designs and FEA testing to ensure that it would work to create a more consistent twist along with having a long lifetime. Ultimately, the piece created resulted in 30% lower standard deviations in the tension values the wire experienced. My design was then sent off to be machined out of aluminum so that it could be installed in mutiple machine lines to create a better product.Â
The final prototype that I created can be found in the image below.
