My Philosophy
My Philosophy
I believe that all students have the capability to learn and understand when given the proper opportunity. All students learn in different ways, and it is my job to find which way works best for each and every student. I do not believe in a quiet strict classroom where students do not feel comfortable to voice an opinion, but I believe in an environment where students communicate and collaborate to solve a problem or goal at hand.
I frequently use project-based learning and AVID practices in my classrooms because I believe it helps make learning more relevant to my students. When students work together to address real-world problems, they use their knowledge and skills and develop communication and critical thinking abilities too. I believe project-based learning is an amazing way to use hands on learning to spark a student's mind to explore and inquire further. Project-based learning is a fantastic way to scaffold from one subject to the next and incorporate ways for students to see multiple subjects at use towards one objective. Through AVID I believe in implementing more rigorous instructional practices. Through extensions on lessons and projects I believe it helps student further inquire and find interest in the topics at hand. I believe it is not only important for students to see and hear the learning but actually apply it through the two methods of project-based learning and AVID.
While I believe and have an open mind in trying new teaching methods, I also find that traditional learning activities can still be effective. I believe practice and error helps a student learn even more as not always getting the results you expected is a way to inspire further inquiry within a topic. I thoroughly believe that each and every day I grow and learn as well belong side my students. They teach me new ways to look at something and new ways to teach as I find a way to help every student possible.
Overall, I believe students can achieve a common goal and outcome in many ways rather than just one common way for all. All it takes is to find how each and every student learns best. I have made it my goal to make sure no student is left behind and do all that is possible to help every student achieve what they are all capable of. Whether it is through project-based learning, cooperation among peers, or standard teaching tactics I believe all students can reach the goals they make.
