Speaker: Matthew Cotter

Hokusei Gakuen University Junior College

This short synopsis will outline the importance and development of te reo Māori through a historical timeline.

Matthew Cotter, formerly a primary school teacher in New Zealand is an associate professor at Hokusei Gakuen University in Sapporo, Japan. He holds a B.A (Māori Studies), B.Sc. (Psychology), Dip.Teach and a M.Ed specializing in TESOL. His research interests include IVE, CALL and indigenous culture support.

We are going to use ZOOM with breakout rooms for the different languages. 

Languages may differ each time depending on the participants. 

Previously, we offered French, German, Spanish, Tagalog, Portuguese, Persian, Russian, and Hungarian among others.

MOTIVATION:

 

JALT OLE SIG wants to provide a space to meet and share using languages other than English, creating a community of practice. This is the Multilingual Café: meet and chat in your favorite language. The languages available depend on the participants at the event depending on what languages the participants might speak.

Lingua Francas for the meeting:

English and Japanese.
