THE THEME for the next event:
Cameroon’s Multilingualism as a Pathway to Intercultural Adaptation
Abstract
This talk introduces Cameroon’s multilingual landscape, with over 250 languages alongside English and French. I will share my first and second languages and explain how Cameroon Pidgin English serves as a lingua franca. Drawing on personal experience, I reflect on how multilingualism has shaped my identity, adaptability, and communication in Japan’s diverse sociocultural contexts.
Schedule:
Greetings 5 minutes
MAIN PRESENTATION
Breakout room discussions
Final Remarks & Goodbye 5 minutes
We are going to use ZOOM with breakout rooms for the different languages.
Languages may differ each time depending on the participants.
Previously, we offered French, German, Spanish, Tagalog, Portuguese, Persian, Russian, and Hungarian among others.
MOTIVATION:
JALT OLE SIG wants to provide a space to meet and share using languages other than English, creating a community of practice. This is the Multilingual Café: meet and chat in your favorite language. The languages available depend on the participants at the event depending on what languages the participants might speak.
The presentation will be in English.
