Our Story
The History of Jalapeño Heaven
Jalapeño Heaven is an authentic Mexican restaurant and lounge that first opened its doors in Branford, Connecticut in May of 1992. What began as a dream between two people quickly became a beloved local destination for great food, family gatherings, and community.
The restaurant was founded by husband and wife Hector and Gail Flores, whose journey to opening Jalapeño Heaven is a story of hard work, family, and passion.
Hector Flores was born in Zacatecas, Mexico, where he developed a deep appreciation for traditional Mexican cooking and culture. At the age of 18, Hector immigrated to the United States with hopes of building a better future and sharing the flavors of his homeland.
Gail Flores was born and raised in Branford, Connecticut, but later relocated to Florida as an adult. It was there, while managing a restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, that she met Hector. The two quickly formed a partnership that blended Gail’s experience in hospitality with Hector’s culinary roots.
Not long after meeting, the couple married and decided to return to Branford in 1985 to begin building their life together. They shared a dream of raising a family and someday opening a restaurant of their own.
In 1987, their daughter Nicole was born. Five years later, their dream became reality when Jalapeño Heaven opened in May 1992.
From the beginning, the restaurant was built on the values of family, tradition, and authentic Mexican cuisine. Hector brought the flavors and recipes inspired by his Mexican heritage, while Gail created a welcoming atmosphere where guests could feel at home.
Over the years, Jalapeño Heaven has become more than just a restaurant — it has become a place where friends gather, families celebrate, and the community comes together over great food and margaritas.
Today, Jalapeño Heaven continues to honor the vision Hector and Gail had when they first opened the doors — sharing authentic Mexican food, warm hospitality, and a little taste of Mexico right here in Connecticut.
