volunteering

I have been involved in various volunteering services throughout my life. I have been mostly involved with NGOs that strive towards making the life of children across the world better. I believe that children are the future of this world, and at this stage of our civilization, every child should have rights to get proper education and nutrition.

After reading about the Penn State football case, I felt obliged to understand how to help people who have been sexually harassed. This was more for my personal knowledge so that I could help beyond  what simple civic training teaches us. It was heartbreaking to hear how many cases happens in home and in childhood!

Baltimore Squashwise is an initiative to help the youth community (mostly from underprivileged communities) of Baltimore in academics and athletics. I am proud to be one of the volunteers from 2017-2019, during which many students went to college. The kids ranged from grade 6th to grade 10th.

Save the Children is an international NGO that works for promoting children's rights, and provides relief, and welfare to the children in developing countries. I was active with this organization from 2015-2018. The link above was the fundraiser I had using squash while I was at the Pennsylvania State University.

I was an active member of Kashi Utkarsh during my undergraduate studies at IIT-BHU, Varanasi. It is not an organization, but a collective effort from the students and faculty at IIT-BHU to help children from the slums surrounding the great campus of Banaras Hindu University. The help can be in form of free classes, coverage of health fees, and improving the general nutrition.

Apart from helping the children, Kashi Utkarsh has been also called upon the time of emergencies, including the series of blasts in Varanasi in 2006.

I was lucky enough to be the President of the Waterloo chapter. The NGO does a variety of works, mostly concentrated in India and towards the children.

Being in the civilized world, we often forget how many people are sexually assaulted, and often, at a very tender age. During my stay in Waterloo towards my PhD, I was lucky to be able to volunteer for this organization for a short period of time. Listening to the stories and accounts of the survivors was often heartbreaking and sometimes inspiring. If you are in Waterloo-Kitchner area, do consider volunteering for this great organization. If you are a male like me, you probably would end up going here.
