Bio
I am Associate Professor and Director of the Health Economics, Policy and Innovation Institute (HEPII) at Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic, Clinical Associate Professor (Adjunct) of Population and Public Health Sciences at the University of Southern California (USC), a Non-Resident Fellow at the Leonard D. Schaeffer Center for Health Policy & Economics, also at USC, and serve as the Advisor for Healthcare to the President of the Czech Republic. I also lead the non-profit Initiative for effective healthcare, which provides analysis and commentary to support evidence-based policy-making in the Czech healthcare system.
My research addresses Alzheimer's disease and the economics of aging, innovative payment models for emerging therapies (including cell and gene therapies in oncology, neurology, and cardiovascular disease), health system reform and inequality, and resilience and preparedness across healthcare and national security.
Since 2025 I have led a multiyear $6-million consortium on population ageing at Masaryk University, AGEING-CZ, where I also lead research projects funded by Horizon Europe, EU Joint Programme – Neurodegenerative Disease Research, Technology Agency of the Czech Republic and the Czech Agency for Healthcare Research. At USC, I assisted in leading a $2.3-million NIH R01 grant "Ensuring Access to Novel Alzheimer's and Dementia Treatments", which produced more than two dozen peer-reviewed publications in leading health economics and policy journals. My past research has also been funded by the U.S Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Health & Human Services (ASPE), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the PhRMA Foundation and the Greenwall Foundation.
I have served as a research consultant to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) and am a member of the International Pharmaco-Economic Collaboration on Alzheimer's Disease (IPECAD). I have volunteered with a nonprofit medical center in the Dandora neighborhood of Nairobi, Kenya.
Earlier I worked at the RAND Corporation on national security, defense planning, and health access, at Genentech on R&D pipeline and portfolio planning, and at the Fraunhofer Society on intellectual-property regulation; I consulted for Tufts Medical Center on oncology outcome measurement and worked with the Czech government on anti-corruption and capital markets regulation.
I have been named a Young Leader by Aspen Institute Central Europe, a Leader of Tomorrow by the St. Gallen Symposium, and a Global Shaper by the World Economic Forum. I hold a PhD from the RAND School of Public Policy, a master's from Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, and an undergraduate degree from the Prague University of Economics and Business.
