Uncovering your Rhetorical Self

My name is Jakob Koehn. If you asked me to define myself, I would say I’m kind, athletic, hardworking, and a man of God. I see myself as kind and welcoming to all people. I am not one to exclude someone of another race or gender. Instead, I invite them in, and I see everyone as a person. I hope my classmates and anyone around me see me as a kind, laidback person. I am not easily angered and will likely never lash out at people; instead, when I am upset, I walk away from the problem, think about it for a while, and then address the issue, whether that is with another person or myself. I see myself as athletic. I constantly want to be doing something, and people that know me, know that it's hard for me to relax. I love to play basketball in my free time and be outside doing something in general. I hope people see I am energetic from watching me play basketball and know that I am full of energy. I am hardworking and have even gotten compliments on how hardworking I am. When tasked with something, I stick to it and get it done. I don’t give up, and I always finish, whether that's the ball in the basket or a homework assignment that I dread. Lastly, I may not attend church on Sunday, but I would consider myself a man of God. I love God and couldn’t get through the tough times in life without him. Everything I do is for God, and I hope people see that in my attitude and actions.

The most significant way I represent myself is through the clothes I wear. I generally always wear athletic attire. The only time I ever wear long pants is for formal occasions or if my class requires them. I prefer shorts and a t-shirt. I am an athlete, so I wear name-brand clothing. Most of the clothes I wear are Jordan, Nike, Under Armour, or Adidas. The only other clothes I wear consistently are beach attire and surf brand shirts. I like lots of Hurley shirts and brands like that. Same with my shoes, they are all Nike or basketball shoes. People can quickly tell that I am an athlete by what I wear. I have even had people tell me that I am a basketball player just by what I wear.

My representation shows that I get along with everyone and enjoy being around others. I also love basketball and being athletic. I wear shoes that I like name-brand clothing and am somewhat privileged. Most of the clothes I own are pretty expensive, which can be seen because it is a name brand. I hope, however, that does not make you think I am arrogant and only spend my money on that kind of stuff. Last year, I took a personality test in health class, and my highest category was compassionate. I am kind, athletic, hardworking, and a man of God. That is how I define myself and how I hope others see me.
