Hey! I am Jakob Deutsch. Currently, I work as a university assistant at TU Wien in the group 'Multiscale Calculus of Variations' of Elisa Davoli at the Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing. I am doing my PhD under the supervision of Elisa Davoli (TU Wien) and Manuel Friedrich (JKU Linz). I am also a member of the student board of the Vienna School of Mathematics (VSM), and organise a discussion group for PhDs close to & in Calculus of Variations with Samuele Riccò.

My primary research interests are rooted in the field of Calculus of Variations and Geometric Measure Theory. More specifically, my thesis topic is solid-solid phase transitions (also known as the two-gradient theory of phase transitions).
You will find me at these events in 2026:
Modern Methods in the Calculus of Variations (Feb, Bonn)
GAMM Annual Meeting (March, Stuttgart)
The 15th AIMS Conference (July, Athens)
Over the last few years, I have taught several exercise classes.
Currently, I am organizing the Seminar for Analysis for Bachelor and Master Students at TU Wien together with Stefan Egger, Michael Kaltenbäck and Harald Woracek and the exercise classes for Non-Linear Partial Differential Equations with Elisa Davoli in the summer semester 2026.
