The Jake Martin Memorial Foundation for Anthropology Education was established in 2024 to build a legacy around Jake Martin, a beloved archaeologist who tragically passed away much too soon in 2024.
The purpose of this foundation is to honor Jake in a cause that was near to his heart. Jake's life was changed by a few great professors who believed in him. This foundation serves to find students at Jake's alma mater, California State University, Chico, who also have a bright future in the field of Anthropology. We'd like to inspire and believe in these students, just as those who inspired and believed in Jake, to pursue an education and a career he never dreamed of.
Jake believed that financial support for upperclassmen and graduate students was overall sparce. While most scholarship opportunities target incoming college freshman, Jake believed it was the older, established students who made it through their first years successfully and were ready to carve out a career path, that deserved opportunities to assist in paying for their education.
The foundation serves to open up scholarship applications annually to a CSU Chico Anthropology upperclassman or graduate student.
The amount of funding we are able to provide depends on the amount of donations received in Jake's honor.
The foundation's Board of Trustees will review scholarship applications to select a student who best represents Jake's passion for the field.
We hope to grow the foundation to support multiple students, provide full financial support for education, and create additional opportunities to expand our footprint and get young people interested in careers in anthropology.
